I just received my new dipstick+tube. Can I change the tube with the pan full or should I wait until the next oil change? I noticed the tube hole on the pan sits fairly high. I guess I'll just wait until the next change. In the meantime I'll try just the dipstick and see how that changes readings.
You can change it full. With the car flat on a lift you might get a tiny bit of oil to come out of the tube, but if you jack up the front end I doubt anything will drain out. Keep in mind you may need to remove one of the coolant lines down low to snake the tube out. It looks like it can come right up, but it can be a big pain. Some people just scribe or notch the dipstick to what the proper 'full' should be and call it a day.

I just bought the KillerB oil pan and pickup. I have a 2.0, do I need to get another baffle to bolt to the engine or can I use the stock 2.0 baffle?

Yes, you need the EJ25 Oil Control Tray (baffle that bolts to the bottom of the block). The EJ20 Oil Control Tray is made to work with the EJ20 pan.

Can anyone confirm by buying the certain parts from Subaru that they will supply the hardware (Bolts) to install all these items?

STI Oil Pan (DOHC STI) 11109AA151 I believe there's 20 bolts
STI 06 Dipstick 11140AA150
Oil Pick Up (Strainer) 15049aa110
Windage Tray (STI) Baffle CYL 10915aa010
STI Pick Up Tube 15144AA011

Just a note this will going into my Raw 1 Performance 2.5 Street shortblock. As I am doing a Hybrid build, I don't want to run into any problems in terms of fitment issues.....etc.

The parts do NOT come with bolts. I believe you can order the bolts seperately, or just hit your local hardware store.

You don't need to worry about the bolts stripping, the block will strip out long before. Stick to the OEM torque specs!

Is the oil pan on the 2008+ Sti different from 06+? any improvements?

About the Killer B oil pan: What's the empty weight of the Aluminum version?

I believe all pans from 2006-current are exactly the same, but I'll check part numbers on Monday. From the picture it looks the same, but I'm going off memory. There are some very small changes from 2005 to 2006, but nothing significant. If I were buying one new I'd get a 2006+, but if I were shopping used I wouldn't pass up a pre-2006 if the price were right.

Here are pan weights:

EJ20 pan: 5.1 pounds

pre-06 EJ25 pan: 3.9 pounds

post-06 EJ 25 pan: 3.6 pounds

Killer B Aluminum pan: 3.8 pounds

Keep in mind our Killer B pan also holds another quart so full, it should be the heaviest.

Chris, I was in a rush to drop the new Killer B pan off with my builder the other day and I didn't get a chance to measure the "brim-filled" volume of your pan. If you have one around there, could I ask you to do that? Having the Cosworth baffle, I want to know what the "DEFINITELY not to exceed in the pan" level is, then put a scribe mark on the dipstick like you suggest. Then I'll live somewhere between the Subaru Full and Cosworth Full points. I'm guessing that another quart would go in to that point.

(Add a big oil cooler and a 2 quart Accusump, and I intend to pilot the Exxon Valdez. Lost one short block to lack of oil at the track, I'm not doing that again.)

P.S.: Saying it again... great fitment to the Full-Race twin scroll headers, eh!

And:

Cosworth is 5.2 pounds
ARC is 9.3 pounds

Do you think that the Sti pan may hold slightly less oil than the WRX ?

It's slightly more than what should read full with our pan. It should read full at ~5.3 quarts and brim full is ~5.5 quarts. You can go over 6 quarts before in interferes with the crank and it will drop bellow the brim of the pan once the car starts and the filter, turbo lines and all the galleys fill. I DO NOT recommend this (no matter whos baffle you use). In fact the ONLY time I've heard of overfilling the pan it was with endurance cars that knew they were going to loose over a quart during the coarse of a race.

I'm glad to hear it fits with the F-R pan... with more clearance than I remembered

The EJ25 (STi and EVERY Impreza after 2006) does hold less than the EJ20 (pre-2006 WRX). The older WRX pans hold .3 quarts more. IMO the design improvemnts of the EJ25 pan FAR outweighs the .3 increase in capacity. I always recommend upgrading the older EJ20 oil pans to the EJ25 version for anyone who likes the twisties.

On the "guide for oil dipstick" have we found if we fully need to swap it out?

From this site to this site it list the same part numbers for the "guide for oil dipstick"?

http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_...C+Oil+DipStick

http://opposedforces.com/parts/impre...ystem/oil_pan/

"15144AA011" & this part number is for many years & models with the turbo across the board.

What car are we talking about here ^ and what pan are you wanting to put on there? Some 2.5 models were changed before others (like the Legacy), and to make it even more interesting some were even changed mid year.

So, I add 6qts when I do an oil change with my KB pan. From reading this I'm adding to much or are you just talking about 6qts just in the sump. Can't really tell if it is high from the dipstick as I have the 2litre one still and reads way high. Just want to get level correct before I go and scribe my DS.

^ Next time you do an oil change put in 5.5 quarts, run the car then check the level. Where that is will be your new FULL.

4.3 quarts. You can either remark/scribe the EJ20 dipstick, or put an 06 STi dipstick and dipstick tube on there to read properly.
