Default Help! Jdm swap

I have a jdm swap ej205 I would like to use the jdm ecu for AVCS. Do I simply hook up the ecu, the wiring harness and get it protuned? Do I need a device like the AccessPort for the tune? I know the AccessPort doesn’t work with the jdm ecu, just wondering if all you need is a pro-tune, and or protune+ device?

The tuner should be able to use openecu and romraider to flash the ecu with a base map and then tune the base map.

I just went through this. 207 swap with avcs on an 02 jdm wrx ecu.

They should have the tactrix op2.0 cable and the flash block jumpers on site. Check the shop beforehand.

Sweet. Also, do you have a wideband? Would they need a wideband sensor(on my side) to do the tune? Or is the factory o2 just fine to go with? I’m currently tuned with the AP with no AVCS, but in the future want to go with a vf48 and AVCS with the mods I currently have.
Cobb Turboback
Pinks
Walbro
Cobb ebcs
Tgv deletes
Mishimoto tmic
Invidia up pipe

I’ve heard good things about AVCS as far as low end and daily driving.
How was your experience with the tuning process, what are your mods, and how is it driving? I should have went with the ej207 but didn’t want to drop the extra 2.5k

wide band is a good thing , factory o2 is slow acting narrow band

you can keep your usdm ecu and ap and run with no avcs but the results are not stellar

or use the jdm ecu (that will not pass us emissions testing because the ecu will not talk to the test equipment) and get an avcs wiring kit from iwire or the like , opensource tune , no ap

plug us ecu back in for inspection time , you could opensource that as well and sell the ap

btw , If you're still on the stock turbo from your 2002 wrx , I have a cheap twinscroll setup listed in f/s here

Definitely hook up avcs, the fv48 setup you are planning is perfect for a dd from my perspective. That’s what I’m running on my Ver 7 ej207. That turbo breathe well from low rpm to around 7,000 rpm. Your avcs enabled ej205 is going to move that fv48 nicely straight to your 7,000rpm redline. I have my gauge cluster light set to flash at 7,200rpm, the ej207 will rev to 8,000 rpm but there is no power to be found going all the way there, no need to torture. I’ve always used IA Performace avcs harness, they come with clear simple installation instructions that even I could follow. I’m no wire job guy. Your tune will probably be on open source. I’ve worKed with Stephen Clark from IA Performance at IA Tuning for my last two jdm swaps, highly recommend that dude.
You will definitely want to have an air/fuel ratio gauge for the tuning process and the future.
You need a tactrix or similar cable and a laptop or similar device you can take on your vehicle when you run out your logs.
Upload ecuflash and romrider.
Follow e tuner instructions.
Don’t kill anybody nor yourself while wot logging.

I’m not familiar with the twin scroll setup. I like the idea of the vf48 due to it being used on sti’s. And I’m not looking for too much power. I’ve got pinks already and really just want to max out the pinks with the vf48 and see where that gets me. I’m already happy with the power, just want to see what the AVCS is all about, with slightly bigger turbo and more IDC, right now WOT I’m at 76% with the jdm turbo, and I’m sure there is more room to spare

Wideband would be nice, that's planned. I went more for an oem setup and have kept it reasonably close to stock, just stage 2 bolt ons.

Absolutely no regrets with 207, it pulls hard all the way to redline, set rev limiter at 8250 and 4 stage shift light at 750 increments. Theres plenty of power up there, if you got the balls to ride it out!

Big +1 for a twinscroll setup, stock vf37 here, very fast and early spool, wonderful pedal response.

I did the iwire harness (207v9 to 96L) but we updated the harness to run a racepak network, stock cluster just wasnt cutting it, mechanical speedo, etc.

Also got it protuned, I'm only taking over maintenance and daily driving tuning mods, learning a ton as I go.

So this can be done, through E-tuning?
Would a Mac book work for the tactrix cable, and logs etc.

Is ecuflash and romraider free? And are those programs easily useable? (Not to complicated, and won’t toast my ecu! If I hypothetically mess something up) sorry... had a bad experience with a original xbox, soldering a executer chip on the motherboard then downloading the wrong bios for the operating system.(virus) lol damn E-mule.

So I need:

-Wideband
-tactrix cable
-ecuflash
-romraider
And obviously wiring harness/jdm ecu.

What is open source? Yea I can swap a motor but I’m a noob in training lol

Romraider is the software to log and edit the ecu.
Ecuflash is used to read and write the rom to and from the ecu.
Opensource means its freely licensed, created by enthusiasts not charging money for the use of the software.

Getting setup is easy enough. If you are like me and have no tuning concepts then save your time and money, and spend the time to learn before modifying the ecu options.

I'd say your list works, but definitely start with a pro tune, then read the rom, then start logging. I started a month ago on the self education, and I'm planning another 10 or 11 months before I flash my second tune (first was just to increase rev limit and test the whole process).

Tbh I’d rather not tune myself! Learning it and doing it is something I would find myself enjoying, however, I definitely don’t have money for mistakes. I was thinking having someone tune it either by E-tune, (preferably...due to time and some amount of money saved) or take it somewhere, where they can tune it.?
With wiring already in place and ecu just needing to be plugged in.?

Not familiar with e-tune, we had a shop put it on the dyno and tune it. Safer I would imagine. $500 was the cost of dyno tune.

I cant help with the wiring, or what's needed for your specific application. I know mine but thats about it. I'm sure someone else will be able to chime in.

I would suggest contacting Brian at iwire, that's where I started, he should be able to help answer wiring questions and get you off on the right path.
