![]() I suggest using the engine from 2014 Forester XT in 2014 WRX, and a better audio system in the WRX and STI models. Subaru is becoming known these days as having the worst audio systems in a production car. Not a good thing when the common person spends most of their time commuting and listening to music in traffic/driving.

![]() Hey SOA, you should put the new high-torque CVT into the Tribeca! That should increase the mpg rating without changing anything else. (though that may kill the towing capability)
You could probably adjust the interior seat spacing a bit without changing the external dimensions any, to make it more liveable for larger Americans. Long-term, you should grow it about 10% in all dimensions - don't change the shape, just make it grow. That should cure all the space complaints. Then turbo-charge the 3.6 to offset the weight gain. It's a great vehicle, it just needs a little fine-tuning. |

Please add the following test case to your new car tests: (To be completed in sub zero (F) temps) 1. Park car in sub zero (F) temps for a while with a full tank of fuel (8 hours) 2. Get on the highway and warm up the engine (30 minutes) 3. Get off highway and slow down immediately and check fuel injection lines for leaks, specifically around rubber hose to steel line interfaces. I experienced this behavior with my 05 STi this weekend - it appears to be a design flaw in the way the fuel injection lines are designed. My theory is that the fuel had reached sub zero temps, and when the car was warmed up and in motion the motor bay was relatively cold, but when we slowed down to get off the highway the motor bay suddenly warmed up. I believe the cold fuel caused the steel injection lines to contract and the warm motor pay caused the hose clamps to suddenly expand, resulting in a few minutes were the car would spew fuel all over the place. This was rectified by tightening all the fuel injector hose clamps, but I had a new 03 WRX with the same problem, but being sub zero temps caused the problem to be much worse on my 05 STi. I don't know if this problem would have existed new from the factory with my 05 STi as I had never had the car in sub zero temps for an extended period of time, but it seems like it would based upon the theory I described above. ![]() I test drove a new STI a few months ago. After driving my 2003 WRX for ten years and loving it, I believed that the STI would be a step up. "Soft" is the only word I can think of to describe my experience. The car just felt soft and not particularly quick. I remember being so impressed with the 2004 STI. Not so with the latest.
I would like to see the STI be a more hard core performance car. Lighter, louder, faster. TO me the STI should be about pulse pounding excitement. On the other hand, I would be happy to have a softer more spacious and comfortable WRX. I would even go so far as to say that a good automatic transmission would be welcome. If you want hard core performance, go STI. If you want refined performance with some fun, go WRX. Slightly OT but Subaru appears to have given up on the Legacy but, I'd love to see the GT with a strong engine and automatic transmission. What does Subaru have to compete with the Maxima, Charger, Genesis, Camry? All wheel drive is great but it isn't the end all be all. Subaru needs to match these cars in other categories too. Just my 2˘. |

![]() The Legacy GT was great, until it got ugly and went manual-only and lost a large chunk of the GT customers. Apparently there's a significant portion of Legacy GT buyers that will only buy automatics, which makes it all the more apparent that we NEED that Legacy DIT to come here.
I think in addition to going manual-only on the GT, most people recognized that making the old Legacy 5-speed into a 6-speed was not nearly the same as the Spec.B 6-speed and saw it as an unappealing vehicle. It was not a good value proposition. SOA should have also offered a Spec.B with the Spec.B tranny so Americans wouldn't feel like we were getting sold a bill of goods with no follow-through. Here's how to make a Legacy GT fail (aka, what SOA did for 2010): Make it look like a Grandma's car Don't offer an automatic so most Grandmas can't drive it Offer a non-performance 6-speed (yes, there are six gears there, but only to help MPG rating.) Make the GT appearance nearly indistinguishable from a 2.5i Add huge fenders that look totally out of proportion to the rest of the car. Here's how to make the next Legacy GT succeed: Bring the new DIT CVT Offer the old Spec.B 6-speed (it can handle the 297hp of the DIT) Make it look good ('10+ Legacy looks too much like grandma's Camry) Make it perform well (the competition has made progress, the Legacy needs to also) |

I'd like to point out firstly that I came from an EVO X to a 2012 STi limited sedan. While the interior build quality/materials is quite a bit better than that of the EVO, the EVO still trumps the STi in many things. So here is a list I know you've seen on here before that you should integrate/equip into the newest STi: -stiffer chassis/needs stiffer bushings EVERYWHERE -make the handling and feel to that of the EVO or better -please, please PLEASE have an option for recaro seats. the current STi seats are terrible and don't hold you in at all -bigger brakes -fix the suspension for christ's sake, it's still not the way it should be but it definitely is better than the first of the '08+ STi -put a twin-scroll turbo in the new STi. i loved this feature in the EVO, it made it so there was no turbo lag and literally felt like the engine was more than twice the size it really was. it was magnificent -lastly, but most importantly: make the internal components of the engine out of materials and manufacturing processes that don't cause them to shatter/break. this is a performance car for crying out loud, pistons shouldn't just be cracking without any modification to the engine. I know you know it's happening, don't act like you don't know this. Look at the evo, people are modifying the STOCK engine with the addition of a newer turbo to over 500HP and they're totally safe with that. please have forged components in the new STi block so that I don't have to look to cosworth and spend an extra 5000 on parts and labor. So as far as what you're doing WRONG, i'd like to tell you also what you're doing RIGHT. Somehow you've managed to install souls into these cars, and even though they're ugly as hell most of the time, the owners love them even-so. It's not the feeling I got from the EVO, but maybe it's because they're a much smaller company who has terrible sales people at dealerships and is overall not doing so well, unlike subaru. So keep up that part and you'll keep me buying as long as you fix the list of errors above. Please for the love of god be in the 350HP range at least with the newest stock STI. the A class AMG from mercedes only has a 2L engine and its putting out over 365HP. Match or beat that! Common! |

Up until recently, I was the owner of a 2004 Outback H6 LLBean Edition. It was my first car (I'm 18 years old currently), and by far my favorite. I loved it so much I'm currently saving up for another Subaru. However, this brings me to an interesting problem. As much as I hate buying a used car, the only Subarus that meet these criteria of being a fast wagon with a manual transmission was the Legacy GT (2005-2006) and the Outback XT (2005-2009), neither of which have a currently-made successor. This brings me to my product recommendation for you, Subaru. For the 2015 redesign of the Subaru Legacy and Outback, please bring the Legacy GT Wagon back to the states. The fifth generation Legacy GT Wagon was still sold in Japan, albeit with different engine options. I think that with the proper marketing, automatic and manual transmission options, and a Limited package, the Legacy GT Wagon could easily find success in the States. Enthusiasts like myself want a fast, turbocharged AWD wagon - just look at the comments section on articles on Jalopnik! Volvo, Mazda, and even BMW and Audi have all rid of their lowered sporty wagons in the US in favor of the semi-SUV versions with raised suspension and N/A engines. Now is the perfect time to re-fill the gaping hole in the segment. And I can tell you for sure that I'd be first on the waiting list. |

![]() I am not sure whether Subaru of America actually reads this but I would like to add my situation here in case they do and maybe help them out as a company.
I am not a Subaru owner currently but I am considering a Subaru for my next car. I am a die hard Honda guy. I have owned nothing but Hondas, my brother has owned nothing but Hondas and we convinced my parents to get Hondas. Cars we have owned and currently own include 1991 Honda CRX Si (bought used and driven to 204,000 miles and sold running great) Another 1991 Honda CRX Si (bought used, engine swapped and turned to a race car. driven to 120,000 miles and sold running great) 1999 Honda Civic Si (bought used and driven to 118,000 miles then stolen) 2008 Honda Element EX 4wd (bought brand new. currently at 88,000 miles and daily driven) 2009 Acura TSX (bought brand new. currently at 107,000 miles and daily driven) 2013 Honda CR-V (bought brand new. currently at 3,000 miles and daily driven) I am looking at Subaru for the AWD and nice exterior styling (WRX/STi). The ideal car for me would be the WRX/STi exterior and interior but I do not need the performance engine and premium fuel requirement. In actuality I would love the better MPG of a smaller engine. I would be happy with a non turbo engine with maybe slightly higher HP than the current Impreza. Maybe in the 200hp range would be great. Minimum 22/27 MPG. I think the current Impreza is so ugly that I would pay extra for the engine and premium fuel I do not need in the WRX. Also I want a manual transmission and the Impreza limited models do not have that option. I think Subaru is missing a sporty looking, feature filled, manual transmission non turbo car. The current Impreza doesn't have the features in manual because of no limited model and needs improvements in appearance more towards the WRX/STi. Just my opinion on what I am looking for and what I think a huge demographic Subaru is missing. |

![]() Please consider reintroducing a WRX trim/body type aligned with the 05-06 "Saab" 9-2x Aero.
I still have mine and love it as my daily. It is quieter than the WRX, much more mature (i.e. professional and great for business related events like golf), more discrete and maturely styled. but with all of the great driving dynamics and fun of the WRX. I would buy a new version in a heartbeat. If there was a '13 version I would buy it tomorrow.... and know MANY WRX drivers that have now grown up (like me) and would love the same. I would have preferred the WRX's style in 2005 actually, but ended up in a 9-2x and as I've grown older would LOVE another one. As an engineer in the auto industry I understand development and validation costs. I do not want/need different performance, mechanicals, etc. In fact that interchangeability is what I love so much about my 9-2x. Simply a toned down version of the WRX with some more sound deadening, better materials, and smoothed out lines for 2-3K more. PPPLLLLLEEEEEAAAASSSSSEEEEEEEEE. |
