Default Why am I so reluctant to pull the trigger on a new TV?

I've been looking for a new tv for almost a year. Bought a samsung dlp tv, and took it back cause I wasn't happy with the picture. Was looking at a 42" plasma, looks ok. Was looking at a 42" 1080p LCD sharp aquos today. But everytime I think I have settled on a tv, I think to myself, DAMN that is alot of money to be spending on a tv.

WTF?

Because even in 2007, a $4,000 LCD or Plasma still looks like ****.

I can't even watch SD tv anymore. Do it and don't look back. Just make sure you have at least one HD source.

Yeah, at first I would be getting an over the air HD antenna to watch all my local channels, cause they are all broadcast in HD. Eventually I would probably get directv HD too, along with either blueray or HD dvd, whichever one wins the battle.

+1

I've got the same 27"er that I bought in '90-ish. I still have a problem with spending over $1K for a boob tube. Maybe after I move to Germany and get my $9K/year raise.

and I'm single, just paid off the car!

Plus I don't have enough HD TV available, what little TV I do watch, or watch enough movies to justify it.

Oh, for those days, before I bought a new "Daycare+Diapers" brand TV every friggin month. But we don't have any credit card debt, either.

Plus, in 4.5 years I'll get one as a 10th anniversary gift from my employer.

Does it have any thing to do with having only one ball? A lot OTers have had that lately...

a friend of mine has that set, it's VERY nice. i have a 42 plasma, it's thinner, but it's no HD and the picture isn't as good as the aquos. iirc the price is fairly good for that set.. i would spend my hard earned duckets on it.

From what I have heard about German TV, you should save your money or blow it at the hofbrauhaus (search for "german beer girl").

Or maybe on trips around the 'ring.

because there's only crap on TV?

I thought about "upgrading" a year ago and realized that almost none of the stuff I watch is available in HD and as I don't watch DVDs...why drop $2K or more?

Are you talking about the 42D62U? I've been eyeing the same set for a while now. Was hoping to get a 42D92U in hopes that it supports 1080p24 (since it runs at 120hz), but unfortunately it doesn't. Prices on the 62U's should drop soon as BB, etc. get the 92Us in stock.

yep, thats the one. They have one open box for 1709. Some lady bought it, brought it back the next day cause she wanted something bigger. I was gonna see if I could get them down to 1599. We shall see.

$1600 would be a rockin' price. Not too much more than the Westinghouse 1080, but a much better set.

I'm trying to hold out for something that'll do 1080p24 natively, but we're moving into our new place next month and it looks like it'll be a while before anything that supports it will be out. I was thinking of just getting a Westy in the interim, but with the 62U prices dropping, I may just get one of those and live with it a bit longer.

Yeah, I know both of the managers there (good friends for a long time) so getting that price should be no problem. If they will do that, I am probably just going to get it.

Just get one of these and be glad you got one of, if not, the best rear projection televisions available.

Then hate yourself when a better one comes out in a year or two.

Plus, the longer we wait, the less we pay for a better TV than you early innovators!

I'm waiting for the <$1K 1080p 42-46"

I'm in the same boat. So many choices. My 27'' Sony from '97 is knockin' on tv heaven's door. I need to make up my mind fast. Lookin' for a 32-37'' lcd. Samsungs have awesome picture but are pricey. I have a 26'' olevia as a pc/tv monitor and love it but dunno about it as the main tv in my family room. aaaaarrrrrgggghhhh
