Question Changing oil 10-30 to 5-30

With winter coming im thinking about moving back to 5-30. After living in Chicago for 25 years i know it will dip down well below 0.

Im running AMSOIL 10-30 right now with about 3k miles on it. Think I should just keep it in and go easy on things?

If i were to go back to 5-30 how should i go about it? I have a few quarts of Mobil 1 syn. that i could dump through and/or run for a few miles.

TYPICAL TECHNICAL PROPERTIES
AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil (ATM) [revised as of 10/07]
Pour Point °C (°F) (ASTM D-97) -50 (-58)
https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atm.aspx

If you switch to the M1 5W-30, don't run it any longer than 3k miles. It's less and less impressive lately showing high wear, with Blackstone labs even saying that they've seen a lot of Subaru's showing high copper with it.

The Cold-Crank Simulator performance of the 2 Amsoils are pretty similar, though the 5w is better than the 10w. Is your car parked out on the street or in a garage? Frankly, I wouldn't give it much thought at all. Amsoil's product is quite good at cold-weather operation in either the 5w or the 10w. If you need to buy oil anyway, I'd say buy the 5w30. If you already have more 10w30 on hand, I'd say use that. I doubt you'll notice a difference during the summer there, either.

The car will sit outside. I'm going to stick with the 10-30 and see how things go
