![]() But back to the topic, my parents have a 2000 540i its getting on in years, close to 100k miles, and it still runs pretty smoothly, still has all the power, definitely needs a paint job though. Its a great car for long trips, cruising, being comfortable. But in terms of performance it feels completely disconnected from the driver. If you really want to drive your car get the scoob.

![]() If I had to choose between both of these I would go with the Sti. I'm just not a fan of the 530i, and its performance is ok. And this isn't an opinion based upon my ownership of a subaru. Good luck with your choice.

Seriously, brakes are not that bad on an STi now. Brakes are $2,400 full list for parts, but there are good and much cheaper options now. Stock rubber is ~$200 per corner at Tirerack. The only semi unexpected expense I've had is to replace my 6 year old battery. $65. Big deal. It didn't strand me, but the slow cranking was obvious it was replaced the next day. I'm also a member of our local BMW club and run with them at the track. Hot laps are fun! |
