Man it must be one of the worst of all time if you are getting out in front of it. No offense.

It wasn't that bad but I expected it to be a lot quicker.

Whats disappointing about a 3:11:6 LL time?
Sounds pretty good to me.

Sure, the Elantra N beat it, bad, but that's been the case since introduction last year.
Beat by the Type R? Whole different category.
Beat by the 2022 VW Golf GTI ? Ah well now, that is disappointing.

It was the slowest car they tested (besides the Kia carnival). Granted different years yield different track conditions, but the 2018 Impreza WRX was a 10th of a second quicker around VIR, you'd think the 20% bump in displacement coupled with a revised chassis & suspension setup would net some improvement.
The 2022 BRZ & 86 were right around it's time too at 3:12.4 and 3:11.8 respectively.
Wish they had tested a Circuit GR instead of the Morizo on sticky tires (2:59.6)

I believe the VA WRX which ran a 3:11.5 was equipped with the initial perf package (non-brembos but upgraded pads).

Regarding the performance relative to the GTI, that's expected. This was the case with the VA WRX (3:15) vs MK7 Perf package (3:14.6).

Power to weight, tire compound and section width relative to weight are key the key performance factors. Driven wheels don't matter that much at high speed. You could throw 265s on MP Cups on the WRX and probably run 4-5 seconds faster if not more.

If there was any doubt in any of Subaru corporate's mind when developing and releasing the car, now they know.

Good video from Jason about the CVT in the WRX GT.

i mean, it's the news and rumors forum, if it's on the interwebz, it's fair game really.

2:58.8 2023 Honda Civic Type R (Manual) *R

In that list, I'm honestly surprised to see the m240 as slow as it is. Also surprised to see the kona N outperformed the elantra N, although with one being manual and one automatic it could easily have just come down to drivers.

It's also physics. Relatively low red-line and gearing.

Peace,

That RS3 saw a 9 second pickup on tires alone.

Hmm, that Kona N tho. I hope the drivetrain survives the redesign.

Unfortunately the only ICE N model moving forward is the Elantra.

That's cause the Civic chassis in its most generic form is just that good. Si is great, CTR is an insanely fantastic handling car.

it's a factory for factory comparison, .8 over a 3 minute lap is nothing in it.

anyway, I wish they would have tested at least with the Circuit edition, or Core, all these tests of Morizo Edition (200 cars total) is stupid.

on the other hand, the CTR has 265 wide tires, and the GRC has 245 wide tires. but then the cup 2 that comes with the GRC ME are better than the PS4S on the CTR.

so maybe that's a wash, and we're back to it being a 3 minute lap and 8 tenths between them.

Anyone notice how Subaru has the 2023 models for every vehicle on their website except the WRX?

Maybe, just maybe, someone is listening and they'll actually get rid of that ridiculous cladding.

Also the GRC ME is 2 lbs lighter than the CTR, according to my Google-fu.

2023 WRX have not arrived on dealer lots yet. So the website continues to sell the 2022. 2023 is unchanged.

4 sec faster than the previous model, despite the lower redline. Not bad at all.

It's a missed opportunity to do better; that's what it is.

https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...ning-lap-2023/

Quote:
[...]But the new car's laps weren't without drama. To improve street drivability, Subaru tightened up the gearbox, scooching third, fourth, and fifth gears closer to second. This is fine on its own, but it did exacerbate another significant change: The 2.4's redline is just 6100 rpm instead of the old engine's 6700 revs. Top speed at redline in third is now 80 mph instead of 92, with fourth maxing out at 106 instead of 124 mph.[...]
I added the bolding in this next quote:

Quote:
[...]Our quick lap featured 20 gearchanges. All three fast sections—the Front Straight, the Climbing Esses, and the run into Bitch—now require a mandatory snick into fifth, and there were three nuisance 3-4-3 swaps through Spiral and the Infield instead of the GTI's focused run in third.[...]
