When I bought my 2009 wrx they were still trying to charge 3K adm on hatchbacks in the Seattle market. I did not pay that, but all the dealers had it on the stickers.

I don't think it bodes well for sales a year from now, for example, but time will tell.
Interest rates are also an issue. The monthly payments are so much higher, so it is helpful when the price comes down.

Sales are sales. Its a compact sedan commuter car. Commuters outnumber enthusiasts.
If the car had been a screamer and/or a looker, those numbers would be MUCH higher.

The market for a lifted cladded sedan in the performance world is not great, in the commuter world it is huge.
Yes, this 100%. The car is polarizing (and for dumb reasons, no one wants cladding) and yet it still offers the formula that people love. It will be successful for the current crop of enthusiasts. I guess we should be glad that it sells at all, considering the 16+ crowd rarely drives anymore.

I've never paid more than ask, and all of my WRX were either under invoice or below MSRP. Perhaps the 2009 was an anomaly with the updates.

I bought my 15 VA in September of 2014. I needed a car right away and no dealerships in the midwest had any in stock. The closest one I found was in Asheville, NC. I bought it at $800 off MSRP.
IIRC the VA started hitting lots in April of 2014. 5 months after the VB went on sale, they were available at all the local dealers.

I regularly watch videos from Aeroflow Dynamics, the premiere shop that paint-matches the plastic cladding. On a recent video about their front lip spoiler and/or new fender flares, they mentioned that a lot of the VB owners that bring their cars by the shop are leasing their VBs. Southern California, so I'm sure that's fairly common. Can't Commit. Seem Legit.

The mental gymnastics people in this thread are using to justify their dislike for this car are bizarre and yet fascinating .

My 2005 (modified), 2008 and 2018 were leased. My 2011 was purchased; only because I expected to sell it before a 3 year lease would end as I move to Manhattan.

I have leased most of the cars in my life. I don't need to own a depreciating asset.

But Subarus don't depreciate that bad. I never actually plan on switching them up, but a few times I did only keep them for a year or so and some friends felt I should look into a lease.

My issue is that I put tons of miles on my cars, typically. Not nearly as much these days once I stopped driving from Alaska.

I don't know how much of that is just society in general now. There is little respect on the web at all to begin with. How much is the car? How much is this is an enthusiast site? How much is people now?

My problem is the asshats that come in here screaming while we are trying to discuss.

Remember Roberts Rules of Order?

Peace,

Greg

You like getting stuck on this, don't ya. HALF an inch higher off the ground whilst being shorter overall and a lower CoG. OMG LIFTED !

And I am not arguing being the most hated. There are only a few cars I've ever seen I just don't think I could get because of looks alone. That is this car for many. Apparently not for most. None of the competition are screamers and are CERTAINLY not selling more. Even though they are faster, more engaging, better looking(subjective). Eh?

Seems people are mad something they don't like is doing better than they are convincing themselves its doing. SWEARING it is going to be a failure(which it could still begin to sell bad).

If there is anyone to hate, it would be all the competition. They apparently have an opportunity, according to this site, to steal SOOO many customer from Subaru if they just made more cars. Right?

Well, that was Seattle. We were discounting them a lot. I had to make a quick decision when I got my 2009 cause they were trying to sell it to another person. Then I visited my mother on the east coast and a retailer out there "said" they would have sold me one cheaper than I paid at my own employer. People on here always want to say something like "Your area isn't all areas. Just because something happens there, doesn't mean it happens everywhere". Seems that applies here as well.

Mental gymnastics? They don't like the look and are disappointed it isn't better than it is. That is separate to how good it IS and any sort of potential. I no longer wish to mod my car and wish it were better than it came. No somersaults there.

Not saying Subarus aren't worth buying if you intend to keep them for a long time.

As you said, "Subaru's don't depreciate that bad," and so they lease better because of that. If I only plan to keep a car for 2-3 years, then a lease is cheaper per month and protects me if there is an accident (resale killer).

My real point was that leasing/financing/cash doesn't make someone less of an enthusiast. Nor does it say anything about the car. I just don't want to keep them forever (unless I got a 2021 STI).

Ah. I was commenting that it's southern California and the lease contracts most likely run rampant. It was a demographics jab from someone who has family in the heart of northern California. Lol That thing about "image" and all that.

The fact that that shop regularly has customers spending $3k to get rid of the plastic cladding is telling.

I hear you. Although I would think Subaru would be below their standards.

The fact shows that Subaru should, at the very least, sell an upgrade kit haha.

This looks like a parts bin close out. They had some leftover STI bits and want to sell them off. Over 40k I am sure.

Brakes and recaros alone will get a lot of people there. Add $1000 worth of helical LSDs and $25 in paint and you'd get the biggest bang for the buck comeback in a while. All while still simply being a performance pack.

nothing wrong with a lease as long as
1) you are cool with always having a car note
2) you put nothing down

Interesting fact - the Acura Integra is outselling the WRX. Acura has sold over 11K Integras YTD. Subaru only sold 8,749 WRXs YTD. Acura's obviously a bigger mfr, but it's just an interesting data point. They're basically the same price with the integra only being fwd.

10,276 for WRX.

But yes. I would expect the Integra to be more popular. Premium brand, Super Street lineage and painted panels.
