FYI, the new mustang.
Putting anything on that bumper edge, it will slide off if the car is on level ground. It is tilted downwards. At that, the plastic protrusion forms a 2nd point under the initial painted bumper point if looking at it from the side/profile. The design as a whole works, because angles and points.

The WRX? Nothing at all like that. Just... cleft chin ledge sticking out.

Talk about nitpicking to prove a point.... it definitely looks a heck of a lot like the WRX bumper, regardless if you can lay a can of beer on top of it or not A lot of the mustang guys are not happy of the new body style, for exactly the same reason. Too much unpainted plastic.

Bottom line is there's a trend here with plastic that seems to be catching on. And Subaru is the trendsetter

Seems like they are heavily discounting the 2023s as well.

The dealership I bought from is doing the same $4,500 below MSRP, but now they are doing an additional $1,000 for memorial Day weekend.

Not that anybody on this thread would actually buy one, but just in case:

Thanks for the heads up. I'd buy a WRX. Just not as-is.

On Sunday I went for a quick ride to a local park to enjoy the outdoors since it was so beautiful out. Right when I got onto the backroad I looked up at my rearview mirror and saw I was being followed by a WRB VB. We had small fun driving through the twisties until we went our separate ways. They honked and I waved in response. Definitely the nicest VB owner I've crossed paths with thus far. No offence to anyone in this thread.

No discounts in my area. It seems like most dealers have 1-3 in stock at the MSRP but it is a great time to upgrade if you can snatch one of these under sticker. Hopefully another sales record is coming, these are hugely popular here.

That really sucks that the wrx is pretty much the only fun car being discounted right now. I’ll take a brz with some ugly cladding for 5k off.

Quirk Works Subaru advertised prices are always misleading. Read the fine print. It says - Must trade a 2009 or newer. So, it is not truly $5,500 off of MSRP.

But you still get an initial 3000 plus the 1000 for memorial Day off. It's still a pretty goddamn good deal even if it's 4,000 off instead of $5,500.

new VB WRX will bu used for the first time in rallying from June 9th to 11th.

Quote:
On May 24, Subaru and Subaru Technica International (STI) unveiled the new Subaru WRX S4-based vehicle "SUBARU WRX RALLY CHALLENGE 2023", which will be introduced to the All Japan Rally Championship JN-1 class, which has been under development. From June 9th to 11th, it will be put into action from Round 5, Rally Tango (Tarmac), which will be held in Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture.

Under the team name of "SUBARU RALLY CHALLENGE" this season, in addition to the team management support of drivers Toshihiro Arai and Takuma Kamata, which has been done so far, it has been announced that it will support vehicle development. The rally championship has continued to participate in the four rounds so far with vehicles based on the VAB type Subaru WRX STI.

On this day, the team structure was explained again, and the driving of the new model car was unveiled for the first time. The following three points are the main features of SUBARU WRX RALLY CHALLENGE 2023.

[Improved engine performance and reliability]
The 2.4-liter horizontally opposed direct-injection turbo engine (FA24) and engine control system have been renewed. Aiming for further response up and output improvement.

[Improved chassis performance]
Based on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP), the suspension and drive system have been newly designed with the goal of high rigidity and increased stroke.

[Vehicle weight reduction]
In accordance with the JP4 regulations newly introduced in the JN-1 class of the All Japan Rally Championship from this season, while maintaining the rigidity of the frame part, weight reduction such as elimination of unnecessary parts is promoted. Aim for a minimum vehicle weight of 1300 kg.

Makoto Shimamura, Chief of Motor Sports Project, Subaru Product Planning Department, who serves as team representative and manager, says, "Subaru's motor sports DNA is rallying. Subaru Rally Challenge's role is to inherit that and continue to take on challenges."
"The WRX brand that we have built up so far will be further enhanced in Japan and passed on to the next generation. To do that, we need a fast and strong WRX in the All Japan Rally. , We will strengthen the relationship not only with drivers and manufacturers, but also with dealers and fans, and will compete as a "one team."In addition, as the number of staff during the WRC era is decreasing, we will inherit the know-how. We will also work on cultivating engineers who can develop next-generation sports vehicles."

Arai, who is the driver, said that he ran SUBARU WRX RALLY CHALLENGE 2023 for the first time this Monday.
"The chassis is great. The VAB was good, but it's two or three times better than that," he praised.
"The chassis is highly rigid, and the suspension works well, so you don't feel the size or weight of the car. I can't say anything about it because I haven't been able to compare it with rival cars yet, but I think we can achieve good results at Rally Tango. I hope that

Looking back on the difficult situation so far, Kamata said, "As the production of vehicles becomes more difficult due to the effects of the corona crisis and the world situation, we have to develop a new model while speeding up the old model. Thanks to your efforts, I think I've finally made it to the starting line," he said with joy.
"The machine is much faster than I expected, and I haven't had a chance to discuss the settings with the team until now, but even without any settings, the speed is about the same as the current VAB. So I'm very motivated.I'm looking forward to working with Arai on the set-up for Round 5, Rally Tango."

Subaru's just trying to find their way, same as us.

Gold wheels don't go with black plastic cladding, obviously.

You know what, overall, I think you're right. It's kind of done. Now it's matte bronze wheels time to... shine?

I see what you did there

Matte bronze wheels are definitely the way to go. Although, I'm partial to gunmetal, but of course it depends on the color of the car.

I've had four sets of gun metal wheels. I'm so over it, but they're better than black wheels. I'm looking at a set of black machine face wheels right now.

But also a set of gun metal wheels too.
