Subaru has the most educated customers, which explains why you don’t own one.

This used to be the case, at least it was claimed that Subaru had (paraphrasing of course):

1) Some of the highest (if not the highest) customer retention;
2) The largest customer base with post secondary education;
3) A customer base which was the least impacted by changes in the economy; and,
4) A customer base who could afford much more expensive vehicles, but actively purchased for value rather than image.

I don't think I've seen that claim made in over a decade, and I would be shocked if it was still the case. I fit that description perfectly, as did many of my professional colleagues, part of my family, and a few of my friends. I owned Subarus for 2 decades, and family dinners looked like Subaru conventions. I had 9 colleagues with Subarus, 2 friends with them, and there were at least 5 people in my local Lotus club who owned them as well (there used to be a bizarrely large proportion of the Lotus community who owned Subarus). Of everyone I knew who owned them, there is only one left. Someone in the lotus club has a 2017 Impreza hatch (manual). Everyone else I know has left the brand.

It's all about percentages. Subaru, still being a smaller company, makes it easier to have higher numbers there. I'd say all of that is still true, though. They never put lots of focus on a lot of those accolades. And I wouldn't count the education of it's customers as an "accolade"; though, I still think it rings true. Again to the %s. And I'll talk to customers a lot that have had "luxury" brands before and are perfectly happy with the Subaru. Even saying it's better. And I chalk that up to personal preference. It's in no way me saying a Subaru is better than a luxury car. Outside of value.

Your list is still accurate. Just few of those things are things an average customer cares about in their decision making for the most part. Customer retention is one though when they say things like "my friend has had theirs for a long time and they love it" type of comments.

Sounds like what you're looking for. I'll see if I can find out what the source for that number is/was.
The link I posted above had some decent numbers. based on 650,000 cars, so not too shabby. (https://www.iseecars.com/used_cars-t...rs-owners-keep). I don't know whether or not to trust the source, but it seems reasonable, no weird data that's raising red flags.

Subaru is #2 on the list. still pretty good. Toyota is still running supreme, taking 9 of the 15 spots for individual cars.

Looking at that was weird to me. #2 on the list(as a company); but, only the Forester being shown. I know the list is "short" and dominated by Toyota. Just seemed like it is just the Forester holding Subaru up?!?!?

June sales should pretty much be 2023MY and it's only 28 shy of 2021 numbers. One better than June 2018 and and 345 more YTD than 2018.

Still only half way and still can fall flat on it's face. I just don't see it though.

Tuned WRX beating a stock GRC with a (presumably) bad driver doesn’t impress me. A stock 04-07 STI would beat them both in a straight line

A tuned 2.4L 4 cyl beat a stock 3 cyl? I knew the bar was pretty low for the VB but @Straight6 manages to create a new low every time he posts.

Maybe one day he'll own one and show us how much of a beast it is!

@Straight6 is the kind of guy who watches a NA Miata roll race a v6 camry in the highway and roll the windows down to yowl at the miata when it loses.

Your desperation to defend this ugly 'thing' is borderline pathologic.. You know that right? First part to solving a problem is to admit you have one.

It doesn’t need defending. Numbers speak for themselves. Troll harder.

Exactly! Engine failures need to be taken seriously across the FA24 platform.

I am arguing apples and you are defending oranges. The car is a bug ass ugly mediocre milquetoast car. I care not what it could be if you throw warranty out the door, or if you get it painted and lowered and add new brakes and pads.

The thing is it is not good looking. Sales only prove people have bad taste, and there are a lot of those people in the world. Subaru is catching the non enthusiast sales. I am sorry if you are not capable having a debate on more than one variable.

Ford Escorts sold well
Chevy Cavaliers sold well
Dodge Neons sold well

sales are not an indication of a good performance car. They are one metric on if a car checks a lot of boxes. Troll harder indeed.

And if the sales were tanking you'd then say "told you so". The WRX is what it has always been. Something people complained about the look. Wasn't fast enough. Or whatever. I'd have this design over a Bugeye without hesitation. Use whatever excuse you want. WRX battles on. As it always has.

There is nothing to argue about. The car is great and the sales are a reflection of that.

i HAD a bugeye in silver, which didn't emphasize the headlights so much, and i didn't mind the looks.

i WOULD NOT buy this new baboon-ass WRX on looks alone ... even if i thought it might have some shred of reliability (which i don't).

I was OK with the STi version of the Bugeye more; but, had a HUGE sigh of relief when they unveiled the new design. The back of the current one is weird to me; but, I have no qualms with it at all. The rest I really like. As crazy as the idea of cladding that will fade is.....
