Have those wipers on a few cars and always turn it off. It's just not consistent, or god forbid you hit a bug just right and it smears the other 287 bugs all over the windshield.

I believe this is just the quick spray/1 wipe wiper function. Not rain sensing. I think it needs further clarification from Subaru though - I saw a Drive article where they interpreted the same way.

It just means it adusts the frequency of the intermittent wiper based on vehicle speed. Loads of cars do this these days. It's just new to Subaru owners.

In my highlander, the wiper stalk literally says mist on it. I don't know about the twins, but given that it's partially toyota and subaru already uses a ton of toyota parts in their cars, perhaps these say the same?

Well, I guess I'll be back in the Subaru family. Just placed an order on a '23 limited, white, 6 speed manual. No markup and no dealership required accessories. October ETA. Pretty stoked, haven't had a RWD coup in a long time.

Assuming you mean manual?

I had not a chance to drive a BRZ really hard before the other day. I was quite impressed. I still wouldn't own one as AWD is #1 on my list; but, would certainly have one if I had enough money to have an "extra" toy.

Yes, manual! My wife has a 4 door hatchback and the back seats in my car have been sat in maybe 10 times in the 8 years I've owned it, so I can forgoe the utility for the sport. Plus, with the hide-away hitch options out there for the BRZs a bike rack is an easy option and my short surfboard can fit inside the car.

My friend has been beating the wall hunting down a 86. He said they are already making solid improvements with it jacking with exhausts, etc. I think it’s gonna be a beast once they have all the mods dialed in. Congrats Dex.

Thanks! I wish him luck, it sounds like the Toyota variant is highly sought after and there are rumors abound regarding the games dealers are playing. Also sounds like manual 86's are quite rare. Not sure how much truth there is to that. I do like the 86, but I'd rather have a Subaru dealership addressing issues on the boxer than Toyota, and I think the front facia on the BRZ is a bit more mature looking. Though, I like the gray accents in the 86's interior more than the red in the BRZ. All minor differences though.

I'm a fan of the BRZ over the GR86, for reasons I can't put my finger on. I think one of these will be my next car, and I hope they remain in production as long as the gen. 1 did.

Same, prefer the BRZ, front end, seats, all of it. The only thing I like better on the 86 is the duckbill. That’s it. I’ve told him to open up to the BRZ but he is all about the Toyota since the rip and in general. Dude loves that co.

Sadly, there is only one small factory building the twins for the entire world, and they are literally in demand everywhere with the remodel. Its going to be YEARS before demand falls off enough to get one easily.

Glad, but bummed at the same time, to see how well these are selling. Still really thinking I'm going to pick one up, but I'm okay being patient for the time being. Will give HKS some time to work out their supercharger kit and for people to work out the kinks. Although personally I'm more into the GR86 because I like the styling of the bumpers and the neptune blue...

The Toyota GR86 and the Subaru BRZ are some of the best-driving cars on sale today. Even better, they're affordable and relatively practical. For many enthusiasts the Toyobaru twins are the perfect fit; they're driver's cars you can actually use every day but still take to the track on weekends. Except there's a problem. More and more owners are discovering a potential flaw in the manufacturing process that could grenade their engines, especially if they're used on track, as both manufacturers advertise.

It all started back in July when a 2022 Toyota GR86 owner named Blake Alvarado published a lengthy text post to the official SCCA Facebook group detailing an engine failure on his car. A breakdown of the engine revealed a rod bearing had failed due to oil starvation caused by excessive gasket sealant, otherwise known as RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone, clogging the oil pickup tube at the bottom of the engine.

Alvarado's local dealership network denied a warranty claim on the engine, refusing to rebuild or replace the motor because a representative found a photo of the car drifting online. Seeing as how the GR86 is advertised as a car that could be taken to the track and driven at and beyond the limit, the decision not to cover Alvarado's engine claim unsurprisingly set the internet ablaze.

Toyota would eventually step in and warranty Alvarado's car, but the highly publicized incident highlighted what turned out to be a potential issue in the manufacturing process with the GR86 and its mechanically similar sibling, the Subaru BRZ. The factory uses RTV silicone in place of traditional gaskets in places like the timing cover, cam carriers, and the oil pan. The problem is, the factory could be using an excessive amount of silicone when assembling the engine, allowing dried chunks to separate from the mating surfaces and make their way through the engine. While most of these chunks are small enough to be circulated through the motor and caught by the engine oil filter, bigger chunks can get caught in the oil pickup tube strainer, cause blockage, and starve the motor of oil.

Car ended up being covered under warranty by Toyota. They reached out and got him set up with a loaner vehicle while the car gets fixed.

They posted a follow up statement clarifying, stating that NASA and similar non competitive events are indeed fine.

ECUtek tuning is now available. First dyno I've seen by Delicious Tuning showed 10-12hp across most of the power band on a stock car with 91 octane.



Seems like 2 things:

1) The car is tuned quite well from the factory, probably the best tuned Subaru engine.

2) Those are pretty good gains across the power band for a stock everything engine with zero mods and crap fuel. Headers + 93 or E85 should be interesting!
