Default which car to rent for long asse drive...

I am looking at these three cars for a 12 hour drive through the SE part of the country.

Ford Taurus
Mazda 6
Hyundai Sonata

They are all priced about the same. I was leaning towards the taurus becuase i believe it is bigger inside. I kinda wanted to try out the 6 becasue i like mazdas but i don't know if it would be as comfortable as the other two. The key here is comfort...being that it is a long asse drive.
The taurus would be a 3 litre 6 cyl engine, the other two 4 cylinder.

any thougts???

If you have ever driven a Taurus then the anwer would be easy.
There's a reason why they are used as taxi's and cop cars.

the 4-cyl mazda should also have better fuel economy.

otherwise, I'd go with the big, floaty Ford

Exactly ^^

Natinowide rented me one for three weeks last year and what a piece of poo it was. This thing was brand new too with only 200 miles on the odo. It was loaded with all the niceities like an FM radio, doors that open as well as close, a locking trunk as well as a handling package that allowed it to steer, stop and roll like a tug boat in Jello.

Outside of being a travelling salesman with _tons_ of crap to store/shuttle there's no way i could live with a Taurus much less drive one across country. I'd take my chances with the much nicer Mazda.

Taurus cop car? Are you sure you're not getting them mixed up with Crown Vics?

I'd recommend the Mazda 6.

I owned a 97 tore-ass for about 18 months. When the car wasn't in the shop, it was great. Seriously...

The *most* comfortable long distance cruising car I have ever owned or driven. Set the cruise at 85, and you can drive as long as your bladder holds out. VERY comfortable car.

She wasn't much in the city, but on the freeway, I have never driven her equal.

Get the Taurus, or as Rex said try a minivan. I happen to hate Caravans for long highway trips but I like Windstars. Might just be me.

If he's just looking to eat up miles, he's probably not concerned about the soft suspension or the sharpened jellybean looks.

I've driven a Taurus and it's not all that bad....It's not all that great either but it's better than the Neon and Grand Am. It's comfy but the 3 speed transmission is utter crap.

Out here they drive both Caprice & Taurus as well as Grand Marquis, Jeep Cherokee, Expeiditions, Excursion, Mustangs, Camaro and whole lot of other big 2.5 iron.

In Takoma Park, MD they even drive Volvos.

He made no mention of a Neon or Grand Am being an option, both of which suck worst than a Taurus.

Of the three choices offered I'd go with the Mazda.

about 2000 miles roundtrip.

Most people recommend the 6 but it seems for the wrong reasons. Is the 6 smaller(interior) than the 626 or is it the same size? My mom owns a '98 626.

Mazda 6. They are pretty roomy and comfortable. Trust me, a rental car taurus will not be comfy or have any HP. I've driven plenty of them. Actually, I have probably driven every kind of rental car in the Chicagoland region. I do accounting for Enterprise Rent-a-car.
