![]() I have an 06' WRX and the power wire going to the bulb is really short. When they installed in they wrapped it around some other input to the lock cylinder. I broke off on of the tabs on the plastic light housing. And I found out that the car will not stay running with the light housing off of the lock cylinder. My security light stayed on until i put it back on.

![]() I just did this last night on my 06 sti and it was slightly different than the posted directions.
the yellow circle shows where the bottom half is attached to the steering column.. the red circles are the 2 screw that hold the top half to the steering column. remove them and you can lift the top half up; which makes it a hellova lot easier to remove the ring. as stated earlier, the wire is reallllly short, and wrapped around another. its the green pair of wires, and after you remove the bulb from the ring, you can untangle it from the other connector, makes it a little easier to get around. Hope this helps ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() John. |

![]() Just wanted to bring light to another great write up, and Spritefiend, thanks for the MY06+ addition... that made all the difference. I was able to do the key ring mod (green --> red) as well as the cigarette lighter next to the aux in plug (also green --> red) so when my Ipod is plugged in that ring is now red as well. NASIOC ftw!

![]() On the newer ones (with the antenna in them for the key transponder) there is a screw which holds them in place - if you pull the covers around the steering column you should see it - then it comes off by opening up the clips on either side (which go around the "tabs" which stick out of the ignition cylinder) - where the keylight assembly is held onto one of the tabs, there is a screw (I forget which one) - I don't know if you can remove the bulb housing without removing the keylight assembly from the ignition cylinder - it's pretty cramped back there.

![]() Yeah, I can see that screw and there is NO way to access that screw without pretty much removing the wheel and all the **** behind it (windshield wiper controls, etc.)

![]() another quick note, on the newer models (at least my 07), you dont need to pull the whole key ring light assy off, just twist and pull the bulb out....remove the little black piece that helps shroud and direct its light, then rotate the bulb about 90 degrees and it should come out....the use your condom, replace with LED, or whatever else...good luck

![]() holy sh**.. this is an old thread... does anyone know what bulb size it is? If I'm to do this, I'll probably just replace the bulb with a color of my liking.

![]() Just switch out the bulb for wide-angle LED's man. I've found out the proper bulb size now. For the key ring and gauge cluster, it's 74. The HVAC is #24 (slightly larger than 74, slightly smaller than 194 - people have been known to "shave" 194 to make it fit)

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...ini-wedge.html I think the option of installing a new bulb instead of a cover is a lot better (especially since red covers are not available anymore). Thoughts anyone? |
