![]() hey guys
i am 18 and am working on my first welding proj.... if you have seen the StiATV you know what i am talking about when i say i want to make a subaru 4wheeler. well i have a wrecked subaru impreza 1.8 (thanks to my brother) i have the engin and trans out on my work table and getting ready to start on the frame. my question is how do i make a wiring harness so the engin and trans work. none of the other crap just the needed engine wiring and the trans wiring. OH! its an auto trans! so i dont know where all the wires go. a wire diagram would be great but what i really need is like a list of things i need to keep from the harness. or a diagram of a reduced harness would be even better!!!! thanks guys Sam

![]() What you really need to pick up is the set of wiring diagrams from the FSM for the wrecked car at techinfo.subaru.com, get the PDFs so you can print a few copies and mark them up.
Wiring for the engine system controls runs all over the car, but most of it lies in the branch that sits between the heater core and the A/C blower and just into the firewall. This is where you will find all of the necessary sensor harness wiring (cam/crank/O2/injectors/etc.) that runs to the ECM, the few tranny wires run through there as well, IIRC (neut. pos. switch, reverse lights). Most everything else on the ECM is either fuel delivery (this runs to the back of the car and you'll probably need that), OBDII, or gauges (without the gauge cluster or equivelant your ECM won't be happy and the car won't get far). You might be best off cutting out the fuel delivery wires (and marking them!!) and pulling the whole bulkhead out of the car still attached to the ECM...it's easier to prep a harness and strip out the useless stuff with it sprawled out in a garage... The wiring diagram for the car also has schematics that tell you where all of the branches for the harness are actually located within the vehicle...useful when you're trying to trace down the few spare wires you might need here or there. Good Luck! |
