I’m okay with it. As long as it isn’t a hybrid.

Looks promising... maybe the VA should've looked like that since it looks like a next-gen GV body with those flared fenders -- hoping those don't totally disappear when it reaches production form.

My first thoughts as well. Ughly! Subaru please don't follow this current horrendous trend of adding tacky fake stick on plastic doodads that promise function and just deliver Pepboy's doublesided tape pseudo performance. Nothing is more of a turn off to a true enthusiast than faux scoops et al..

The good news is that if you like that concept you can count on the fact that the real car will look nothing like it. That is not even a car. That is a rendering

This should smack us back to reality.

It's the VIZIV Performance with an STi grille/wing and red bits. https://www.subaru-global.com/ourstory/ourfuture.html

It's the new design language.

Does everyone remember the viziv 7 concept. That concept translated to the ascent concept which looked closer to production model we have now. It is possible there will be a more production ready concept that they haven't shown us yet. When the prototypes begin their road testing, we will see how much of the lines were kept. I see them keeping much of the front, and a lot of the side profile, but not so much of the rear. Maybe the Geneva or the New York auto show will surprise us.

Something else they have not shown us yet is possible looks for the interior, although we may simply see many pieces from the Subaru parts bin based on interiors from the impreza and crosstrek. That is not really a bad thing, but I hope they ironed out the entertainment issues.

They will be showing a concept, not the "new STI". Also OP your title says "new Impreza STI"? Are you inferring that they are merging the WRX models back into the Impreza line?

Don't care about concepts that won't go into production.
Show us the new engine already.

It definitely has a Type-R vibe going on with it. I am certain that the actual production model will not look similar to this as that is the trend. I do like it but I am still holding out for the finalized version and news on the new engine(hopefully).

Besides the CTR wing design, I'm not seeing much difference with this concept and the current production WRX/STI. It's actually closer to the current car than the original concept of the current car based off the realistic production roof line and windows, IMO.

I don't expect it to look markedly different than the current STI given how the 2017 Impreza is more of an evolution of the previous generation styling from the front anyway. A few more rounded edges with the familiar grille and probably the rear end will be the most distinguishing feature compared to the current due the tail lights being markedly different.

True, but it's kinda disappointing considering the current car is still not at all appealing to the eyes. The wide arches sunken wheels, giant mug, slab sided, mom jeans butt, tall greenhouse sedan profile still does't do it for me.

The rockers under the doors, that jut out like some horrible taste body kit, is what killed it for me. I tried to like it.....

The previous generation had that as well to tie in with the fender vent. Evo, GTR, STI went all in with that design cue. I actually don't mind the previous STI because the whole car (talking sedan) had a more cohesive sleeker look. Proportions were for the most part appealing. Current WRX/STI is just a mish mash of inflated bulges on an already inflated car. It's like Subaru took a gen 4 Legacy GT sedan and attacked it with an air compressor, a beehive, and Lane Bryant. With this concept, Subaru added a Civic Type R to the arsenal.
