Default Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon headed to North America

Quote:
Mercedes-Benz officials confirmed on Thursday that the 2012 E63 AMG wagon will be part of the North American lineup.

Slated to arrive in October, the high-performance wagon will get the same 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged, direct-injection V8 that debuted in the 2012 E63 AMG sedan at the New York auto show in March. It produces 518 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. An optional performance package boosts the output to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft.

Like its sedan counterpart, the 2012 E63 AMG wagon gets stop/start technology paired with a seven-speed multiclutch transmission. New 19-inch, 10-spoke wheels are included, but only the wagon version gets a panoramic roof as standard equipment.

The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon was sold in the United States with the previous E-class generation through the 2009 model year. Mercedes spokesman Dan Barlie says it had a loyal customer base, and the E350 4matic nonperformance wagon still attracts some of the wealthiest Mercedes buyers.

I hope this is the gateway to North America getting other FAST wagons.

I'd love a B7 RS4 Avant!

It would be a toughie for me, I like both wagons a lot. I guess it would come down to which ever one gave me the best driving experience. My goodness, is the E63 sexy!

Price?

The one thing that bugs me about this wagon is that there is no 4matic version.

Doesn't mean I still wouldn't drive the **** out of it

Too bad it's a Mercedes. Living in Long Island, land of the snooty image, has totally and completely soured me on BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Land Rover.

That was a pretty cool video.

They need to make more obscure X vs. Y videos.

I just had an awesome mental image of that complete with out-loud phaser sound effects.

I'd have to drive both the Caddy and the Benz, but I keep hearing that the Caddy's Recaros suck which is hard to believe. The manual in the Caddy is a big plus. I'd have to black or smoke out all the chrome.

You're in New England so I assume people are more normal there. Here in suburban Chicago it's the same as Long Island. Little rich kids drive C300s and A4s like go karts and really make me despise those badges, even though I love the cars themselves.

I wouldn't mind an older E-class AMG. Because, at least, the larger German luxo cars are driven by people here who aren't mentally challenged.

My mom has the non-AMG version (E350) and it feels and sounds like one too when you drive it!

The steering feels a bit dead and still hard to get used to with the speed sensitive steering and the car feels HUGE! Longer than the MLs she used to own.

But the seating positiion is great, the hood seems to extend forever and the acceleration is pretty weird to describe. Different from her previous MBs.

It's dead silent until you hit the gas and there seems to be a tiny, TINY delay in response before it feels like you're being gradually thrown off a waterfall and this is just a V6! Odd feeling, it's fast but not fast feeling? I dunno. but I love the car. So many buttons to play with too, makes me feel like a kid again sitting in a "spaceship"

Why would a new model that meets current NA safety standards mean that a 3 year old (or older) car would then be eligible to come here?

My buddy had records of his E63 AMG being at the dealership 16 times in 6 months for services and repairs... He sold it for an FX50, hahaha.

I like the performance wagon image but if its constantly causing headaches Merc's going to need to go back to the drawing board.

Although MB's have become very appealing to the eye, the fact that they continue to have reliability issues has many looking at other options.

The Caddy's Recaro seats complaint is they are a bit too stiff for everyday driving. I don't know if the term suck would be the definition of it, unless you're looking at the cost of the option

+1. The 2003-06 (W211) E's had their share of problems, although from what I've gathered the '07-09s improved a lot. They all seem to have had their steering angle sensors replaced. The W212s are too new to tell.

I had an extended test drive in a W212 Bluetec just before the end of last year; I really liked the drivetrain, driving dynamics weren't what I'm used to (but could get used to) but all the electronica makes me fearful. Too bad we can't get the decontented German taxi version.

Honestly though, my mom had 2 gens of ML class and now the current E class. They haven't have any sort of electrical problems to see. The SUVs ate through tires and brakes like no tomorrow but rock solid. Isolated case?

my parents are mercedes buyers, period. my mom just got a new wagon, replacing a wagon, she has never had problems with the wagons. i think this is fer fourth.

my old man on the other hand, has always had the big sedans and currently has an 09 i think amg 63. prior to this one, it was an electrical **** show. this one has been stellar, but i know for a fact his 06 s600 was constantly failing electrically. dead batteries, locked doors etc.

but the latest is mint. no problems.

Not even, really. I'd be happy with a decontented E350 Bluetec.

The first M-B I ever drove was the now cult favorite W123 300TD wagon. It made a great impression on me even if it was bog slow anywhere it couldn't get up a head of steam. If I lived somewhere where the roads weren't salted and I could find one with <200K miles and not hippied up I'd seriously consider buying one for a DD.
