Mechanic scratches rim...
What would you do? I took my car to get a tire plugged. Get home, inspect the rim and see he scratched it. I called the shop and told them about it, and they said to bring it on by. But really, what can they do? And what could I ask for?

You should always make a plan that the shop agrees with PRIOR to having your car damaged.
IE: tell them not to scratch your wheel, and if they do, have them accept that they will have to pay for it to be refinished or replaced. If they won't agree, take it somewhere else. Sorry I can't really help you since it's already been done, just something to think about in the future whenever you deal with shops. |

mechanic fixes rim..
most shops that do tires would not screw up your rims for the morons that do have them fix it or better yet go to a better shop and have them repair it or send it out for repair. |

there is a "reasonable expectation of damage" when mounting or dismounting tires. my guess, its a small scratch on the very edge of the rim. stop being a whiny baby, and get over it. |

This is not a reasonable scratch..it's more of a chip off the edge about the size of a nickel. Is that reasonable? Don't think so. |

It might be hard to prove they did it if you drove home and didn't notice until then. I mean you yourself don't even know for sure if the damage occurred at the shop or on your way home.
My advice is to be super respectful and polite, you would get laughed out of a court room if (hypothetically speaking) you were to bring it to small claims for lack of evidence so the only reason they have to fix it is customer relations. |

it doesn't have to be that way but since you apparently don't care that much then it doesn't matter. the OP obviously does, as would i. OP, to answer your question, decide what you think is fair and see what they offer. is is a surface scratch; is the area anodized, powder coated, painted? your options depends on the damage imo. |

Being a mechanic I know it isn,t always easy mounting and dismounting tires. Some times the tools do leave a mark. We don't design the tools or the rims. We always try to be careful. Unless it is some big scratch in a bad place some marking is unavoidable.

I've been sitting here debating if I should go back or not, but I think I'm just going to let this one go and see if I can touch it up myself. With that being said, anyone know if there is touch-up paint for OEM wheel? |

If you can get some touch up paint for your wheels, just tell them that's what you did and ask for $10 or whatever off your next service or whatever.

My brother had just bought a new set of wheels for his car took it to a shop around the corner to have the tires mounted as i put one on i can clearly see the shop had scratched the wheel, upon further notice at the other wheels one had a 4-5 inch scratch that was covered up with a sharpie pen LMAO.He went back and explained what had happened .Shop just gave him his money back if i was my brother i would have told them to purchase me a new wheel it was pretty bad.

Picture of scratch?
Being that you drove away before bringing it up/discovering it will not help the case, but depending on the shop you might get lucky. Will they replace the wheel? No. Will they offer you $10 off your next service, more then likely. |

first of all how did scratch it dismounting it if it was a tire plug? You dont have to unmount the tire to put one in, a tire patch you do

They could've, I've seen it where a newbie tech pulls a car into hoist and gets the wheel on one of the lift bars.

@unequal, I would just try to touch it up your self. You calling them was probably enough embarrassment for the tech. If they gouged the wheel I would definitely tell them you want a new one though. |

I wouldn't freak out about a broken bolt, because anyone I take my car to would extract it if they did break it. I do most of my work myself anyways so its not something I have to work about. |
