I think for it to warrant engine replacement it has to be a quart and a half +. I still think that the oil consumption you're dealing with is excessive and you should get a new engine. See what the dealer says, if it's something you don't like then reach out to subaru corporate to voice your displeasure with a new vehicle consuming so much oil. Good luck

How has the engine been used? Lots of high revs? Has the used oil been analyzed for metal content (bearing debris)? STI's do use lots of oil - it's fairly normal. Doubt they will replace the engine without proof.

Subaru's definition of excessive oil consumption is 1 quart per 1,000 miles.

If you're concerned about the engine's health, have a compression and leak-down test performed. That should rule out a major engine problem.

I'm surprised to see a quart in 1000 miles is the problem point. For the FB problem, 10 ounces in 1200 miles means short block replacement. I had that done, so it's burned into my head. That's 1/3 the quart in only 200 extra miles.

OP, my buddy has a 2019 STi with Cobb Stage 3 + EBCS and he doesn't consume any oil. He told me he drives like a granny but also said he's hit redline a few times.

Not to highjack the thread (PM me if you want) but KB, what do you think about 1 quart per 1k on a stock 2010 STi with 62k on it? This is a rough estimate as I haven't set the trip after filling, but I did the plugs and the compression test was good (140-145 psi on all cylinders). Didn't have access to leak down tester when I did the plugs or else I would have. I know I need your kit sooner than later! (bought the car with 60k, one owner and stock )

If consumption hasn't decreased after the initial break in period, something internally is severely wrong. I have a built EJ20 with 75k miles that uses a quart in 3000 miles or so at 24psi, and a stock EJ20 that uses a quart in 2000 miles because it has 175k miles. Take that anecdotal response with a grain of salt.

Check again, making sure to go off the odometer, and make note of exactly how much you're putting in.

1 quart/1K miles is a LOT of oil to consume. At that rate, it has to be going somewhere and leaving a tell. Leak-down would have been nice, but until you get a tester, pull the intercooler and downpipe. It could be a burned up turbo or better yet, a bad PCV valve.

As a general rule of thumb, if you have excessive oil consumption, no AOS on the planet is going to stop it. It may mask the problem, but it will not resolve it.

Yes. Short block at 94k miles. Car now has 150k miles with no oil consumption whatsoever.

I'm about to change the oil so I will keep a real tab on it after that. Thanks for the input. Hoping to do the KB oil package soon!

Subaru corporate was a pleasure to deal with when i encountered the same issue prior to logging 5k miles. If you’ve added aftermarket parts they’ll have you sign an agreement not to do so once they’ve replaced the engine. Definitely get it checked and resolved though.

If you're unmodded call Subaru of America and just get the ball rolling with them if they don't acknowledge a problem. They always get something done.

If you're modded... you might be ****ed. The poster before me was extremely lucky in getting a new motor from one that had been modified.

so after the oil consumtion test the car lost 2.3 lt after 6000 km, they proceeded to do a compression test and a leak down test and both came back normal. what should I be expecting from Subaru? I still think its excessive! no mods and car was driven not aggressively at all! plus I am an aircraft mechanic, and totally looked after the car well.

2.43 quarts in 3728 miles.
What did Subaru claim to be an OK amount?
