Battery is good, Cobb AP low voltage error
I recently got my Cobb accessport V3 for my 2005 WRX and went to go install it. It saved my Ecu stock file but when I went to go flash the new tune it came up with the low voltage error and I could not proceed as it stated 11.7V in test mode with all components off. I decided to charge the battery in case it was weak (its only 25 degrees Fahrenheit here). After fully charged I went through the process again and it stated 12.0V. I backed out and went through the menus again immediately to see if it changed the voltage it was reading. The accessport then said 11.8 volts. I decided not to try it as its too close to the 11.75V cutoff.
I used my voltmeter on the battery with the car completely off and got 12.6V. I also load tested it and it did good there as well. I feel like the fans and fuel pump cutting on and off a bunch of times while in test mode is really draining the battery down but I'm not sure. Is there a way to stop both of those from cutting on in test mode? Would it be okay to pull the fuses to them or am I missing something in the directions? I was thinking of hooking jumper cables up from my other car just to help maintain the battery voltage since the battery tender I have doesn't seem to hold it above 12V. Also, am I right to understand that if the voltage drops below the 11.75V that the reflash will shutdown? Really just don't want to ruin the ECU. I'm going to test the voltage at the battery when in test mode to see if I'm loosing any voltage. Edit* Battery reads 12.2V in test mode but when fans kick on it drops to 11.78V.

You seem to have fairly normal wire losses to the load which causes a voltage drop to occur. It would be nice to know what the voltage reads with the Accessport while the engine is running around 1,500 RPM. It should be around 13.4 volts if the charging system is normal.
Having a cutoff voltage of 11.75 volts seems too high to me. You could try cleaning the battery connections and the grounds to see if that helps the situation. I'm not sure why you have the car in the test mode while trying to flash the ECU. |

Thats what the directions said unless I misunderstood them? It says to keep the green test mode connectors plugged in and eventually you have to turn the key to the "on" position. Unless thats just for storing your factory tuning and you can marry it to your car without all of that?

Semantics... Yes you leave the test mode plugs connected for the flash process. Your car doesn't actually enter test mode during the process though, assuming you do it correctly.
Stupid question, but I had the same issue the first time I tried to flash. Do you have the blue (or white, depending on the year) connector plugged in as well, and is it on the right connector? I found out I had mine on the wrong connector the first few attempts. Another thing you could try is use a trickle charger if you have one. |

Thats strange... I must have done something wrong. I am using the right connector (white for 2005 model) and I believe I have it on the right connection. I'll check again to make sure I have it connected correctly and give it another shot. I'm probably just overlooking something ridiculous.

Fixed. I feel pretty stupid but it was because I didn't turn the key to off and then turn it to on again. Thats why I was in test mode... I just left the key in on. Thanks for the help. I'm embarrassed to say how much time I spent messing with this but now I know.

That makes two of us :P At least you had the connector in the right place, unlike me. Glad you got it working.
