Pale orange - I just did it and it looks surprisingly good
I would suggest this as only a temporary thing, though, the condoms look better

If you search around a little bit, I know I've seen people talk about it, or even just message someone that has done it.

The bulbs in the gauge cluster are about twice as big as the HVAC, so I'm guessing .3 or .4? Search around and post your findings.

Correction!

Bulb condoms for the Hvac are .20 and you'll need 2-4 of them depending on model/year car. (mine needed 2 for my03 wrx)

You'll need about 10 (a couple extra) .12 or (.20 also work) size bulb condoms for the gauge cluster but it won't turn out so well because of the green film.

You'll need 1 .12 size cover for the keyring light (if your car has it)

And finally 2 (1 for each) .12 sizes covers for the cruise and fog switches.

I tried bulb condoms from partsexpress and it didn't work out too well at all!

Look at my writeup on I C L U B as i used DIRECT REPLACEMENT LEDs here:

http://www.I-club.com/forums/showth...;threadid=43144

* i never edited it but some of those are 'dead links'... instead goto http://www.autolumination.com/ as it is the same dealer of the same exact bulb(s)...just different name

My results are as follows (for bulb condoms and LEDs...yes i tried all the colors in each type)

In order of brightness.

In inst cluster with green film:

1) Green LEDs in the Inst panel
2) Blue LEDs in Inst panel
3) Amber LEDs in Inst panel
4) Red in Inst Panel (faint red/brown at best)
5) same order but with condoms

for the Hvac:

1)Red LEDs worked best
2)Amber LEDs
3)Green LEDs
4) Blue LEDs
5) same order for bulb condoms

Keyring light:

Any color will be fine because it's clear/opaque plastic

Any other questions just PM me nd i'll be more than happy to help.

also i've got some questions. is the 04 cluster the same configuration? can anyone confirm that they are #74 bulbs in there? if they are then i found some white led's, in my quest for a white cluster. also i know people have complained about "hot spots" with led's. i was at autozone the other day and had an idea. has anyone thought of installing the little wide angle led "accent" light in the cluster for more ambient light?

It hasn't on mine. But if you think about it, bulb condums hold in heat as well.

Food for thought.

won't the red paint fade?

I was going to use blue paint on my bulbs, but I decided to put leds in instead.

OK, I'm definitely tired of the orange now.. Did anyone have any success with blue whatsoever? Anyone use blue condoms? I don't want to go through the hassle of buying and installing if it won't look good anyway..

partsexpress.com

Shipping is expensive though. Mine arrived today! 10 each of .12" and .2", red. I will be doing as much color changing as I can while still not knowing how to remove the HVAC/radio trim on an '05. So that means just the ignition ring and cigarette lighter.

Once my alarm comes I am going to have to figure it out... I'll probably wait. Just did the ignition ring and cigarette lighter. Took about 5 minutes. Looks good from what I can tell so far (too light outside to really know.) Used .2 on them both and had to trim the bottoms off a bit because they were a little long.

Does anybody know the actual bulb sizes for the HVAC/stereo/dash bulbs? I want to actually change out the bulbs themselves, w/o painting them. Normally, I'd paint em, but I want blacklight bulbs to match my Blitz BLM gauges

74's? Cool. I think, judging by the pics, that a couple of them on the dash are wedge-type (194, IIRC). Any idea how many of them are in the radio/HVAC/dash? I live in Alaska, so I'd like to order all the bulbs at once, so I don't have to pay for air mail twice on them.
