Found this post through a link on another forum. Curious why you chose to leave out all the popular digital gauges (Cyberdyne, Dakota, VEI, etc).

This FAQ is missing a link for fuel pressure gauge install. search is taking a long time. I'm sure I'll find it eventually, but it would be helpful.

This post was awesome I got just what I needed (simple boost gauge, prosport) and managed to get it installed by myself in just under a few hours (never worked on a WRX before, so it was interesting)
Thanks again!! (With the supplied links, I even managed to do it without removing the intercooler!) |

Btw, Cyberdyne makes a pretty convient Voltage guage (digital as most of their line), that just plugs into the cigarette/acc plug. Big plus with this is that you can just move it from car to car if you need to check something out.

Has anyone used the Prosport Air/Fuel gauge with the volts meter in the middle. If so how long have you been running it and has it give you any problems?

That is a very popular gauge.. and simple to install. power, ground & one wire to your output wire off your stock O2 sensor. They deliver instant readings direct from your cars computer/O2.

Can anyone answer the oil press question. Mine reads 40-50 psi at idle and 95 to 100 psi when I'm on any form of gas( Hard or coasting). Also I was told that you should wait to drive your car hard until your oil reaches 160 F. But here it says 220. It takes a while for my oil to reach that temp. Will it hurt if I start getting on it at 160 F? BTW Excellent thread. I just bought A BDL fuel rail that has a spot for the sending unit on my Fuel press gauge. Can't wait for it to go in. Thanks for the help.

This thread is great, Prosport gauges are just like Megan racing coilovers, more bang for your buck.

The "extra" wires that most previous model gauge install guides refer to isn't present in the 2008 WRX (at least, on my Premium model..). The wire color codes on the radio & a/c harness may be different as well (I'm new to Subaru..). I finished installing an electrical boost gauge by tapping into the fusebox.
Also the hole in the firewall specified in boost gauge install guides for previous models was not to be found, so I went with a large grommet on the passenger side that houses a ton of wires, and routed it under the dash to the driver's left side. The same hole might be there (there are two small grommets in roughly the same spot) but I found foam / paper insulation to be pretty thick.... I did hear the 2008 did a lot to lower the noise level inside... |

for a boost gauge, wouldn't tapping the line for the T fitting + vacuum line at the FPR be more accurate than the BOV line?

Have room for two 52mm gauges and a turboxs knocklight in my cubby pod on the Legacy. Boost is obvious, followed by either oil pressure or EGT.
My understanding regarding EGT as explained in the FAQ here is that it is a good way to see if you are experiencing lean conditions as temps will rise. Will monitoring the stock knock microphone with a knocklight overlap what the EGT is telling me in terms of detecting lean situations? In what situation would the EGT rise to dangerous levels without the event being picked up by the knock sensor? Just trying to figure what is the better combination for keeping an eye on things with a 20G going on, thanks! |
