That sucks, my bumper went through so much abuse before it finally cracked due to a car accident. I hit driveways, speed bumps even hit a cone once on the freeway driving about 70mph and it only had some paint come off.

scraped on a driveway last night and cracked my bumper. only 2700 miles... such a bummer lol. the crack is on the mounting tab and runs the length of the bottom bumper. this was one of the first incidents i've ever had, i was going up the driveway fairly slow but miscalculated the angle.
used some plastic weld on the crack. i applied it on the interior of the plastic so the plastic weld was not applied directly on the painted area. same location as everyone, drivers side, right where the bumper molds out. i ordered a bayson r lip today and will do an install as soon as i get it. i found out a replacement bumper is $270 + tax but unpainted. pending how the winter goes i might get one, look for a cheap painter and have the one i have now as a spare for winter or something. **** happens but it sucks when you have OCD like me about things like this. i'm just disappointed in the quality of bumper but i know last night was my fault. |

Would buying a lip help prevent this from happening? I would bet that it would mitigate the cracking, but I would really like to prevent it in the first place. A few hundred for a lip beats replacing a front bumper.
found the bayson r sti lip for 2008-2010 stis, and I have an 11 wrx. My understanding is that I would have to do some extra drilling to make it flush and strong. For $130, I could deal with it, just put on some plasti dip if I dont like how it comes from the company. Thoughts? Last edited by corvid; 11-23-2011 at 03:40 AM. |

I am going for it. I will get the limited lip for the 11 wrx/sti. I remember something along the lines of bolts working better long term for fasten the lip.

I installed the lip after I discovered my crack. You do have to drill about 20 holes in your bumper, but it looks nice.

Oh well. Ill use the existing holes that are there, and whatever mounting hardware bayson offers, then add a few more and some double sided tape. I just want some decent looking reinforcement. |

What do you guys think about the rally innovations light bar? Im wondering if this would save the front bumper from chunks of ice/snow here in Michigan... Any input/opinions?
Heres the site: https://www.rallyinnovations.com/pro...php?prod_id=64 Heres a pic of the 08-10 bar: http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merch...ory_Code=11450 |

If it's the same as the 08-10 bar it's horribly ugly. I don't know why they won't make a skid guard for this generation.

I pick up the car Friday, what are people doing to prevent this? Is a lip the answer?

Last winter my worthless all-season tire can't stop the car so I hit a pile of snow. I cracked mine more than half an year ago without any aftermarket lip on sale. Fortunately it's not too bad so I installed a HTauto lip (not cheap though) then the cracked part is almost invisible.
The lip is aggressive so whenever I go down a ramp, I hear the lip hitting the ground, but the lip is strong and flexible enough to avoid any physical damage other than some scratches which is still invisible if you're 1 foot away. I think the flexibility of the lip can somehow cover your bumper but it doesn't mean it won't happen. In addition, this expensive lip extending out of the body will hit the curb first before your more expensive bumper does, so I think it's a better investment than OEM. The OEM replicas might be a cheaper way to go but I don't know how they work. It still depends on how carefully you drive to avoid collision. I agree the drivers take the full responsibility of cracking bumper since this is a lowered car and you like it so you buy it. WRX owners will not appreciate that their cars are as high as Outback Sport. Well, maybe that's the way Subaru should do to make people lower their car by their own and clearly disclaim any responsibility. |

^Agreed, and on that note make those stupid summer tires an option since they are irresponsible to run half the year in about 3/4 of the country. IMO.
I'll get the replica lip, then hope the lip doesnt increase the risk via making impact more likely. I really dont drive in much snow unless its going over the passes, so whatever. |

still no cracks. grounded it on one driveway ramp about a year ago. still worried though. plan on trying the suggested reinforcement method of epoxying reinforcing plastics in underside of bumper cover.

Demolishing cones in RX probably doesn't help either.

Anyone try to go thru the warranty process on the cracked bumper? Looks like they used crappy plastic for the bumper. My other car's bumper is made of polyurethane and it's pretty durable.

No crack yet, but just noticed this when I was changing my oil:
The clip is completely broken off, it appears to have even broken through the push clip, but the clip is fine. I don't even know why these are here, the bumper feels exactly as rigid on both sides. Excuse the bras. |

I am a new subaru wrx owner and member of this crack club! I scraped my bumper turning around in a driveway at only 600 miles, 3 weeks of ownership. I was almost sick. Got a nice scrape and crack at that infamous point. I understand it was my fault for hitting something but the bumper does seem a little flimsy. Can't wait to see what NJ snow does to it. I won't worry about in now but may want to fix in the spring.
Does anyone recommend adding the subaru lip ~ would it cover a small crack? Does anyone recommend an aftermarket bumper? |

Boy oh boy, I just picked my 2011 up this past Friday and I am overly paranoid, to say the least.
I'm just going to get the SPT STI lip or the Blacktop Aero type V front lip. I've gotta do something, we get way too much snow up here in CNY and if I crack the bumper after it's already had the 3m clear bra on their this will turn into a huge headache. |
