Default Im a little confused and need some help with my brembo swap..please help?

Okay, so ive read all the sticky threads about brembo swaps but i am so confused.

First things first, I have a 2003 WRX with a stock drive line, axles, etc.

Next, I just picked up a set of 2005 front and rear brembos.
with the fronts, i got the rotors with the hubs still attached.

So i know that i need to do a conversion to the rear to get the rear brembos to work on my WRX. Is it possible to just find a set of 2005 STi rear hubs and use those? would i need to change axle/diff stuff?

basically, im asking what to do with the rear if i want to just convert over from 5x100 to 5x114.3

any suggestions?

Not having done the swap, I believe there are two "easy" options:

The first option, is the least favorable in my mind. It requires a special rear rotor that is a hybrid of the STI and the WRX so that the e-brake shoe fits the inner diamater.
http://www.fastwrx.com/rebradkit.html

The second option appears to be better, it uses a special e-brake pad that allows the use of standard STI rotors without problem. You should confirm that these will work for your WRX, as the term "classic" is open to interpretation:

LastResort has got it down.

To answer your original question, no you cannot just slap on 05 STi hubs unless you are using STi rear axles, and R180 rear diff.

Do you have everything else for the 5x114.3 swap?
-Wheels
-Struts

IMHO it's probably better to just do the fronts with 5x100 rotors and keep your rears stock. Swapping to rear brembos is pretty expensive and probably doesn't make a ton of sense, unless you're doing a full 6-speed/R180 swap.

okay, well that gives me something to think about, i kinda figured i would need to do the
R180 swap. but i was hoping it would be easier and less expensive than that haha

but as for the fronts..
i have tein flex coilovers and wheels that are drilled 5x100 and 5x114.3
but i dont know if the coilovers will work with the sti hubs. im guessing not..
so im guessing that wont work to just slap the front hubs on?

Couldnt he just change the backing plate in the rear to a 06-07 WRX that came with the Subaru 4/2 pot brakes, install the Brembo Caliper, and run a 06-07 WRX rear disc?

I would have ran the 04 STi Rotor on the front off my stock 5x100 hubs and the front Brembo caliper; change the backing plates on the rear to 06-07, and just ran a smaller rotor on the rear with the rear Brembo caliper. The 06-07 rear rotors are still bigger than stock, and vented.

IIRC Brembo calipers bolt the same way the Subaru 4 pots and 2 pots do.

The 06 rear wrx disc is different

I think you can swap backing plates like that. That would save you the brackets.

Brackets are $250 - backing plates are less but harder to do?

Still need the smaller parking brake rotor though if you want the park brake to work.

OK, here is what you need without all the craziness.

Front:
2004 5x100 front STi Rotors
The front caliper will bolt up to your stock knuckle
Done for the front

Rear:
Rear hub and backing plate assy from a 06-07 WRX that came with 4/2 pots
06-07 rear rotor (smaller than STi, but e-brake assy is right, and it is still bigger than stock AND vented)
Change out your hubs for 06-07 hubs and backing plate
Install 06-07 rotor
bolt up rear Brembo
Done for the rear.

rear WRX rotor - 290 x 18

rear STi rotor - 316 x 20

The pads won't hit the rotor even close to right will they?

The wrx rotor is too small and may have the wrong offset.

I know they are smaller, but they would still work with the 2 pot rears if he used the 06-07 WRX backing plate I am just thinking here). I don't think there is any differance in the Brembo rear, vs the Subaru 2 pot as far as the actual caliper is concerned. Yes, the rotors would be smaller than the STi rotor, but they would fine and his Ebrake would be OK IIRC.

I mean the way you use a larger rotor is raise the caliper. If the 2 calipers are the same, and uses the WRX backing plate it would put the Brembo in the same spot as the Subaru 2 pot. This should allow the use of the Brembo with the smaller rotor.

*IF* the offset is correct and the WRX rotor centers in the Brembo caliper it will still have 13 mm of pad not hitting rotor.

What are the differances with the Brembo caliper, and the Subaru 2 pot caliper? Just the Caliper its self? I don't think there are any differance at all other than the Subaru/Brembo sticker.

If there are no differances between the calipers and they are the same (other than brand), the WRX rotor would fine since he would be using the WRX hub, and backing plate. I think the STi backing plate is taller than the WRX plate, that is why it can use larger rotors. It makes the caliper sit up higher. If he uses the smaller 06 WRX backing plate, it will place the Brembo caliper in the same position as the Subaru 2 pot which will allow for the smaller rotor.

I have the 06 rear hub, backing plate, 2 pot caliper and 06 rotor on my 98 Legacy. It fit fine with no problems at all.

Ugh. Stop spouting wrong information. The STI rear Brembo caliper is NOT the same as the Subaru rear 2-pot. The STI rear Brembos will NOT work with the WRX rear rotor.

The calipers are designed for a different sized rotor and pad so they won't line up at all.

That's what I have been asking! What are the differences, but everyone kept saying stuff about the rotors.

Thank you for clearing that up!

I think this is the easiest, quickest solution.
