Well that turned out to be a pretty crappy weekend for me, despite the weather being nice Saturday. Somehow missed my alarm and woke up at 7AM in Portsmouth and rushed to the track. Then starter connector came loose so I had to fix that. Then I lost power steering while simultaneously overheating coming through turn 9. Limped to the pits to find the accessory belt was chewed up and spit out. Impossible to find a 57.5" replacement since my car doesn't have AC. Didn't matter anyways, because the culprit was this:

Power steering pulley had actually snapped and was flopping around. No belt replacement would have fixed that, so for the first time in 4yrs tracking, I headed home this way:

At least I didn't ruin the track for everyone. Nice meeting some of you boners. See you next year. Maybe.

Also, love the new timing gizmo as well as classing system.

Oh snap!

I saw your car from running away on the flatbed, but I didn't see you. Sucks man. I would've bought you a coffee.

Definitely a great weekend. I'm beat. 2013 plans in the works already. I am in favor of the new classing 100%. Now anyone can be competitive in their class.

Congrats to paultg too!

Yes I am, and I looked at the season's TT results before my previous post in this thread.

I don't think he beat all of the ST4 Miatas

...even in the dry

Trying to beat all the Miatas at a COM track day is a tall feat. I went back and looked at the times from this year -

WGI - 2:13 Gordon Andrade 13th overall
NHMS SO/NC 1:13 Will Martins 8th overall
Mosport 1:36 Gordon Andrade 10th overall
NHMS C/C 1:18 Will Martins 11th overall
NHMS SO/NC 1:12 Will Martins 5th overall
Summit Point 1:42 Will Martins 5th overall

I run in SPC with Gordon and Will. I've been trying to catch those guys all year. I know its not easy, and slim chance it would happen your first time out in a new car.

Sorry to hear about your car Doug. I didn't know what happened to you. It seemed like we had half the entries on Sunday. I thought it might have been the rain.

Lol... Those Miatas are fast especially when they know the track. I managed a 126.4 NC/SC first time on the track with a 200+ hp advantage!

Must have been the rain because it was still a sell-out AFAIK. It sucks but should be an easy enough fix and it wasn't the worst day to miss.

That was my first time running the south chicane so I had to figure out the best way through there. I ran a 1:20.3 in the morning and actually found myself in 12th overall before the track warmed up and everyone got their fancy race tires working. Not sure if it was just the temps or if I overinflated my tires in the morning to compensate for them dropping in the cold, but I've never had so much oversteer. Guessing I wasn't alone on that one, though...

On the topic of timing, that new system is amazing! I actually purchased the Trackmaster App and this was my first time using it and it's astonishingly close to the times I was emailed. Since I'm a nerd and don't use spreadsheets enough all day at work, this is how close my phone's timing system was to the new COM system:

Export of lap times from the app and the PDF Bill emailed everyone. The amount of data from a $5 app is incredible!

good to hear that app works so well, I bought it awhile ago but haven't sorted out where the hell to mount my phone in the clown car, I'm sad I missed the session where everyone set their fast times, however, I did learn that 7 year old A6's were 2.5 seconds a lap slower than my roundy round bricks even after I soaked them in formula vee....I need a new tire for next year!

I'll probably need a new mount too. I got one that mounts into the CD player slot. You have one of those in there, right? Or is it cassette? While it's securely in the CD slot and the phone is securely mounted to the mount, the position of the phone ends up flopping down under track loads as it's basically just a plastic bearing to adjust tilt and turn so I can't read it while on track. Annoying. I'll probably work out a solution because while strapped in, that's about the only place I can reach.

I think the fastest dry lap I set Saturday (in which I did catch traffic) was faster than all of the Miatas except for Gordon Andrade, which was about 1.5 sec slower than him.

I was faster than all of the Miatas except maybe a heavily modified Mazdaspeed car, which I was never on track with, yesterday at Lime Rock.

Dude you almost popped him! If he slid backwards a few feet that would have been carnage. Cripes.

He would have needed like $4 in repairs to that **** box
