no, my car is not THAT fast...
Anyone encounter this little problem? Ever since I started parking my car close to the back door at my office building, the people who go out for smoke breaks always ask me if my car is really fast. Then they quote some microscopic 0-60 and 1/4 times for me. My reply is always that it isn't that fast by a long shot, but it's fairly fast.
I'm not satisfied with that answer, they're not satisfied with that answer. Some of them even comment that the car looks much faster than it is. This is really starting to burn me up. Any suggestions? I do have plans to someday be able to mod my car for some real performance gains, it'll just take some time. So hopefully, one day I can say, "Yes, my car is as fast as it looks." In the meantime, anyone have some good ideas for what I should tell these people so they don't walk away totally unimpressed with the car? Grazie in advance. -Duva

Tell them that it does 0-60 faster than any other Subaru in the US and that the fastest RS in the US recently did a 12.6 1/4 mile. And that the car will pull over 1G with a few suspension mods and closer to 1.2 G with good racing compound tires. Then say that with the areodynamics of a rally car, it is not built for top speed, but to get up and go out of tight turns on any road surface in any condition imaginable. Tell them that it is faster than any other car sold that year in rain or snow. And that SOA is bringing a turbo version that should improve times considerably and that only time will tell exactly what those times are. If they still arent satisfied, bring them to an autocross and Ill take them for a ride

Just tell them yes, it's that fast.
When people asked me if my Renault GTA was the new Maserati, I just told them yes on that, too. Easier than explaining it all. |

Personally I tell people "It will roast just about any Civic, and a fair share of VW's, etc." That seems to put it in their mind it's not a porche, but not just a grocery getter..

Try it with an OBS, which *not* faster than most Civics nor VW's. The OBS has to be the fastest looking slow car around!
Then again, I've never seen a Civic nor VW on the beach! |

Hehe, thanks for the replies. Of course now that I'm better armed, nobody has approached me about the car. D'oh...
