Clicking noise from front right wheel- Bad wheel bearing?
I drove my 02 2.5 RS (10k miles) a little more than usual today, and I could hear a pretty distinct clicking noise from the right side of my car. It was high pitched (at first I thought it was coming from the tweeter from my speaker, lol), and seemed to increase in frequency as the car accelerated.
Is my wheel bearing starting to go? If so, how soon should I get it checked? I'm driving about 500 miles to get to college this Saturday, and won't be able to schedule a repair in time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Clicking noise? That may be your CV joint. Does it get worse when you make a turn? It can also be wheel bearing too, but bad wheel bearing makes loud grinding noise.
Fixing it as soon as you can is the best solution since it should be covered under warranty. My wife's Grand Am had a bad wheel bearing one time, and her car's bearing was in such a bad condition (from driving too long with a bad bearing) that the whole entire hub assembly had to be replaced. That's a lot more expensive than the bearing itself. |

It sounds more like a bad CV axle rather than a bad wheel bearing. Is there alot of grease on the inside of the wheel where you hear the sound? From my experiences that is usually an indicator for a worn CV.

check out all possiblities first
It could also be a stone or other object lodged in the tread.
While you are sliding around under the car also take a good look at the tire treads. I had a clicking noise for a while. I noticed that it shifted from front to rear when I rotated the tires. When I checked the rear tire I found a piece of 1/8" steel rod embeded in the tread . I was lucky it did not go through the carcass. Pulled it out and the clicking went away... Oh happy day. |

Hmm, I've been doing some thinking...
I saw this thread when I was brosing through the forums looking for those with similar problems. Do you think that it's a possibility that my brakes are making that noise at higher speeds? The noise does not occur only when the car is turning...whenever the car was over 50 MPH, it would make that noise. It's noteworthy, however, that it didn't make that noise this morning, and only after a couple hours of driving did it start clicking. If anything, I'm more confused . Oh, my suspension setup: Eibach springs Perrin rear sway bar & upgraded mounts Perrin endlinks Front & Rear strut tower bars Whiteline steering rack bushings STi engine mounts So, with these mods I'm certain that the dealer won't do the repair under warranty. I'm short on cash ATM (since I'm a college student), and I'm leaving for Nashville (14 hr drive) on Saturday. Could this possibly be a fatal problem, or is it not likely that it'd leave me stranded? |

Perrin endlinks are metal bearing mounts.
I can not attest to Perrin endlink longevity in particular, but it's common for bearing mounts to click when they get the tiniest bit worn. The ball bearing moves around in the bearing mount. If it is that noise (and obviously I can't say as I haven't heard it), it won't leave you stranded. |

It would cause no harm to remove the right hand front sway bar endlink and go for a drive - at least that'd be enough to knock my theory out of the water. |
