So help me understand this: The first new engine in 20 years comes along and the thread was closed before most people got their car? And now the old thread is going to be deleted? Why not transition that traffic to a different thread and archive the old thread to save the information in it?
As someone who is a moderator on another (non-automotive) site... I don't see the sense in this. There's now no clear place for me to ask questions of people who have received their car -- especially people with the CVT. I can ask about engine questions here, but most of my questions were about drivetrain, transmission, delays in receiving orders, etc. It just seems short-sighted to kill off an active thread bringing in new users. I suspect my response is not unusual: this is the first time I've posted on the site since the New WRX thread was closed. Run the site the way you guys want, but where I moderate I wouldn't have done this. Anytime someone figures out if the new injectors will flow enough for E85, feel free to post here. given that most people don't have their cars, though, I doubt I'll get a response soon. |

Exactly,
It was no longer N&R an on top of that it 17,000 + posts which absolutely annihilates the search engine. People bitch that the search takes too long and brings up unrelated crap, then they bitch when we try to improve the speed and remove the unrelated crap |

It may have been a bitch for other things but it was absolutely super popular for new users and questions about their orders and their new WRX.

General, Newbies, tech forums. There are plenty of places where the general discussion belongs, N&R was not that place. The STI thread will be seeing the same demise soon.

^ Then you will have eliminated 90% of why I come to this site. I'll come and ask questions on occasion when I have a project, but that's it. I'll be less informed when my car does arrive and I'll feel less connected to this site. Maybe that's the way NASIOC is supposed to be and, if so, then that's cool and I'll just visit a lot less.
@Hinshaw: re-read my post. I said I could go to the technical forums for technical questions; I did not, however, see a place to discuss issues about the CVT, ordering/waiting, or just trading new info about the car. Hondaslayer himself noted in another post that the CVT questions didn't really have a proper home. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I am just a bit surprised. Most sites try to increase traffic; you guys are trying to reduce it. While killing threads full of enthusiastic newbies may increase signal-to-noise, it's a stern approach to growing an enthusiast community. |

Ordering/waiting can goto General. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=68 or Newbies and FAQS. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=34 (Where most of them already go anyways) The biggest thing we are doing/trying to do is get 2.0L a new forum for the new car. Everything else does, essentially have somewhere it can go. It's been working for the past 14+ years, just because a new car comes out doesn't mean they get an entirely new sub-forum dedicated to every single bit of the car. Note that we don't have that for any of the cars. We do have a small section for things like BRZ, Impreza etc. Speaking of which, the BRZ guys who have had a version of this motor already, don't complain about any of this. NASIOC is one of the LARGEST car forums in the world. We have plenty of traffic, and grow everyday. We are not locking every thread. In this technical section, we are working to get another specific forum for the new turbo 2.0L. WE are asking to keep the threads organized in the mean time. The threads in news and rumors and subaru news were closed because the car is in production now. We've said this many times. |

blockwise: they're similar to the EJ engines, except the cylinder liners are much thicker, all open deck.
the heads are completely different, using roller rocker design now, separate cam carrier/case which is replaceable without a new head. Which can be really nice if a cam gets wiped out or something. Dual timing chains, 14mm oil pump, water pump is belt driven and replaceable without having to tear into timing cover. some basics |
