Default VOLVO AUSTRALIA/2010 Volvo Line-up Announced

Quote:

VOLVO AUSTRALIA
has revealed its plans for its 2010 model line-up, announcing the addition of two new diesel powertrains and a sophisticated twin-clutch drivetrain to the range.

The C70 convertible and V70 wagon only get cosmetic upgrades (the latter of which gains a sporty R-Design spec level), but the rest of the range receive updated engines and transmission options as well as some mildlyrefreshed bodywork.

The headlining news is the availability of the new 2.0D turbodiesel on the C30, S40 and V50, which brings with it a brand-new twin-clutch Powershift gearbox sourced from Ford.
Developing 100kW and 320Nm, the 2.0D engine uses a variable geometry turbocharger to maximise boost response and improve driveability. It replaces the outgoing D5 diesel in the C30, S40 and V50 models, and is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by around 8 percent.

Volvo claims the C30 consumes just 5.9 l/100km on the combined cycle when equipped with the 2.0D engine, with the S40 and V50 drinking 6.0 litres of diesel over the same distance.

The six-speed Powershift gearbox also contributes to the improve fuel economy numbers by combining the mechanical efficiency of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic.

Fundamentally the same unit that’s fitted to the Ford Focus TDCi, it’s strong too: the compact twin-clutch transaxle can channel up to 450Nm to the front wheels without complaint.
All-wheel-drive has been dropped from the S40 and V50 ranges, but so have prices. The C30, S40 and V50 also get a new T5 R-Design variant added to their line-ups, which mates Volvo’s 169kW turbocharged inline-five with a sporty bodykit, alloy wheels and special interior equipment.

The T5 R-Design models receive new bumpers, unique alloys, a spoiler, embossed-leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearknob, alloy pedals and a unique instrument cluster.

The XC60 and XC70 wear updated bumpers, grilles and sport some revised interior fittings, but the under-bonnet changes are the biggest.

In addition to the existing 175kW 3.2 litre petrol V6, both the XC60 and XC70 can be optioned with Volvo’s all-new twin-turbo 2.4 litre D5 diesel engine. It produces 151kW of power and a solid 420Nm of torque thanks to its sequential turbocharger layout, and offers more power and better economy than the outgoing D5 mill.

The XC60 continues to be available with the 210kW turbocharged 3.0 litre T6 petrol engine, and a six-speed Geartronic automatic is still the standard transmission.
All 2010 XC60 models will also receive a power-assisted tailgate and Volvo’s accident-avoiding City Safety technology as standard equipment.

The updated 2010 Volvo range is now available for order, with full pricing to be released soon.
