maybe not necessarily low profile but something that would fit under our cars with a 1.5" drop

mud tire on a car w/ 1.5" drop?

I was looking for a cheap tire to stud the other day, and found a couple truck tires in 195/65/16.

It's got a 26.1" diameter, as opposed to stock 24.9, so I'm not sure what fitment would be like.


If you want a real off-road tire, your best bet is to find some 15" rims and get rally tires.

i just want to go play in the mud some more and these kumhos dont grip for crap.

If you're not afraid of a little work, you could get a cheap set of snows or all season tires and cut out half the tread blocks.

www.discounttiredirect.com has $50 Coopers that you could modify to make a good mud tire.

All you really want is a tire with large gaps between the tread blocks, so it doesn't clog w/ mud.

im running boggers on my beadlock rota's, 215/40/18.

I've thought about this too. I've done a good amouont of looking for both tire that can handle gravel well and deep snow in winter.

Winter tires may prove to be a good setup. Most are usually nice and soft with a good, aggresive tread block. They'd do well in loose gravel and mud, but you might not like them so much on packed where the surface can get near asphalt-like and the tread may not be as sticky.

There just aren't truck tires available in such a low profile.

An option other than winter tires is just very aggressive passanger car tires. There are a few out there that do offer an aggressive tread pattern. The ContiExtremeContacts offer a good tread pattern yet strong on-road traction as well. Then you have BFGoodrich Traction T/As that seem to do well on most everything. Stepping down to performance tires you've got Firestone's Indy 500 tire, again a good all-around tire that works well on everything(personally had these, loved them). I'm sure there are others that can do well on rougher surfaces. I personally haven't looked at much lower class tires.

If you're looking at pure mud, deep stuff, a "normal" tire still may not provide enough. You might be better off with a dedicated rally tire if you really need a very good off-road tire. You just can't find much available other than 15" rims though.
