Default STi Side Splitter Install Question

Anyone have experience installing on 05 WRX? There are little clamps that are supposed to go into the bumper...but my wrx bumper doesnt have a spot for them. Im pretty sure if i break the clips off and use some 3m tape and fasten the clips on bottom and the sides it will work...but i was just wondering if anyone else had this experience....thanx

Mike

i didn't shave the 3 upper clips. i drilled 3 small slits into the bumper. but i did shave the ones on the inner side of the splitters down. i didn't use double sided tape. you can if you'd like though.

I used a dremel for the slots on the top of the bumper which you speak of... fits like a dream.

It's better if you go and cut the holes in the bumper but since I don't trust myself with a dremel I just cut the tabs off and used 3M doublesided tape

thx mang. unfortunately i can no longer clear the ramps. if you look at the last pic i installed a replica v-limited lip from e-auto. w/out the lip yes. the wagon is lowered on STi wagon specs. if you do a search under my name you'll see a few more pics of the wagon at different angles.

i just installed them. omg, just cut all the tabs off. cutting your bumper is such a pain, esp. with a dremel because it melts it a little. remember that the two side tabs need to be cut off. you have to remove the white part, and then cut off the tabs.

i used a boxcutter and screwdriver to make the 3 bumper holes for the upper tabs. its very secure, rather than taping, but i cant ever remove them now! lol

sure but i won't be able to get it to ya till this weekend. my sister has my camera at the moment. i know the peice you wanna see. you'll need to shave the splitter down just a tad at that spot so it'll sit flush.

remember guys. i'm about 90% happy w/this setup seeing that these parts are ment for the sedan. the fit is very good but not perfect.

thx!

No prob, anyway i'm still waiting on some parts. What I really want to see, is the fitment between the lip and the splitter at that point. Is there any gaps or it sits thight.

I installed the splitters on my 05 WRX a few weeks ago. I used the dremel method and made three 3/4 inch cuts in the bumper for the three tabs on the splitters to fit into, and used the six bolts and clips to secure the bottom part of the splitter to the bumper (3 on each side). I unfortunately made the cuts on one side too large and had to use a 8-10" strip of 3M double sided tape to secure the top part of the splitter to the bumper.

I wasn't worried about cutting into the car since I wasn't ever going to take the splitters out, but I guess my advice would be to measure twice and cut once and keep test fitting the tabs into the three slits to make sure you don't make the slits too big. The three tabs should fit snuggly into the three cut slots. The problem with the dremel I found was the pastic melts and you have to burn off the plastic from the dremel bit with a flame (lighter) and wipe the plastic off from time to time.

I used this thread as my guide: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=531720

I did NOT drill into my bumper. I dremeled off the tabs and then used 3m tape on the edges, the bottom bolts and two clips in the fender. It is on there pretty solid and isn't going anywhere. I just know that when I go to sell the car that I want to be able to return it back to stock, which would be pretty hard with holes in my bumper. Here are some pics:

Installed the splitters over the weekend, cut off the two plugs, but left the three tabs. Holes didn't lineup under the bumper, but cut my own holes and the splitters fit fine. Now I have to get painted side skirts to make it look good.
