Default Fast Turn Signal

i was just messing around, looking at my lights...

the car was off, with the key out, in reverse... i don't know if this has anything to do with it...

but i put the key in, turned it to AUX(radio on, nothing else) and put the turn signal indicator to the left... i didn't know they wouldn't go on.

so then, with the indicator stick still down(left turn signal position) i turned the key....

THE SIGNAL'S BLINKING REALLY FAST!!!!

i thought, whoa... is this how you change signal speeds? did i blow a fuse?

so i looked... all four signals still work and both left and right signals blink really fast...

did anyone else know this? did i in fact blow a fuse?(all lights still work)

I think that that means that one of the bulbs are burned out. They do that to tell u in other cars but I dont know about subaru. Do you mean they still light up as in there are no burned bulbs, if so double check.

i'd really like to be able to make them go regular again...

i've quintuple checked, NONE of my bulbs are out(not even brake lights)

i did take off the third brake light(my stock spoiler has one in it) but that was a good week before this happened...

from what i understand the lights will blink fast if the circuit doesnt sense enough resistance from the bulb. this is why a lot of led turn signals make them blink fast. mine blink fast atm cause i rewired my parking lights (smaller bulbs) to be my turn signals.

Are the indicators on the cluster also blinking fast? I'll assume they are.
Have any bulbs been replaced recently?

the indicators on the cluster are also blinking fast.

the bulbs are mostly new bulbs... the reverse lights, rear turn signals, front parking lights, and headlights have all been replaced.

the rear turn signals are LED, that's probably what's going on. thanks nqwan!!!

warning (hazards) still blink at the regular speed...

It's definitely the LED bulbs. Their current draw is way less than the original bulbs so it causes the high blink rate, same as if a bulb is burned out. There are two solutions- one, add huge resistors in parallel to each LED bulb to normalize the current, two, get an electronic blinker module that doesn't depend on current for its flash rate.

eh... fast flash is alright. rather than get resistors i'll just put in the stock bulbs if it gets annoying.

but thank you!!! the information is invaluable.

Same problem on my 09 WRX. stock bulbs. Blinks fast on dash and the actual bulb. Just made the call to have them check it out. I noticed condensation in the housing, I'm thinking that has something to do with it. 700 miles on the car, hopefully simple fix.

what happened with handsdown was that he put leds though, not regular bulbs.. mulder explains it

but for your car with stock regular bulbs..

Adding resistors in PARALLEL actually increases the current, I think you meant in SERIES.

No - read what you quoted again - an LED draws too LITTLE current, a resistor in parallel acts like a dummy filament to make it look like a regular bulb

This has no relevance to highvoltz's case which is either a blown bulb or a faulty flasher unit or wiring
