Search around built motor about long rods. There have been threads that go into great depth. Or you can ask Homemade or Dom since they are the main guys who do long rods on subarus. |

Bore, stroke, cylinder cout are the only factors in displacement; rod length has no effect.

A 'long rod' EJ25 (79mm stroke) is not actually a long rod but pushing the rod lenght +2mm does slightly reduce rod angulation etc but really is negligable. It primarily reduces reciprocating mass. /threadjack and onto seeing what this 7670 puts down -Micah |

How does putting more material into a rod make it lighter (2mm longer)? Not trying to be a dick, honestly wondering how that works? I mean, if they make something a special way for the long rod motors, couldn't they in turn make it the same way for a standard rod motor and come out even further ahead in reciprocating mass?

^^
I'm assuming its because you end up with a shorter piston....? |

However, could those principals not be applied to a "stock length" rod and custom forged piston for an even lighter still reciprocating mass? I guess, that's the question i was going for...

NO, in other words. If you lengthen the rod by 2mm you must shorten the compression height of the piston by 2mm. even though the aluminum that composes the piston is is ~1/3 the density of the steel that makes up the con rods; there is a more than 3:1 difference in the effective cross section of the length shortened from a piston VS. the length added to a rod. CN: 2mm less piston compression height weighs less than 2mm extra rod length. Oh, and you are right you can apply both principles if you are willing to have a piston that sits way below deck, but that sucks. |

From my understanding it has little to do with the weight and more to do with the geometry.

Little compare of 35R and EFR 7670 lol no number yet this is just for ****s and giggles
35R did 9 psi at 3500 rpm EFR did 15psi at 3500 rpm so EFR spools about 500 rpm faster, and im sure on dyno dom will make it spool even faster! |
