NICE wrap job. I cannot believe how many people go the easy way and wrap everything at once.

^^ You really think wrapping both pipes together and having 1" air gap in the middle of the wrap is that detrimental?

.....enough to justify an extra 5 hrs and 40 minutes of wrapping?

detrimental or not, I don't want to try and get to the middle bolt of that flange with a bunch of wrap in the way.

yeah that does suck.....but messing with a bolt for 10 minutes is still 5 hrs and 30 minutes less

I have a little bit of OCD so I tend to go for the individual runner wrapping. It looks less like a half-assed job that way IMHO. Were you able to wrap the TS uppipe too with that 100 feet of wrap?

^ lol, for my previews setup i was able to use 100 feet for everything using their standard wrap, this wrap is a lot harder to work with and its way more sensitive!

I would argue that the 1" air gap in the middle would be better than individually wrapped runners. Why do mittens work better than gloves?

that is why the wrap has so many layers for it's thickness. There are many woven strands that create little gaps and air boundaries. The more boundaries you have, the less heat is transferred.

I prefer each tube to be wrapped, or none at all. Uneven contact will result in differences in temperature across the pipe.

Nice job on the wrap! Did you ceramic coat them first then wrap? I didn't think people were wrapping these days with all the new coatings out there...

The wrap may not burn but the oil sure will.

What wrap did you use? Also how did your up-pipe come out? It doesn't seem like you'll be able to individually wrap the up-pipe since at one point the tubes are almost touching.

BTW great job on that wrap. I need to wrap mine soon. Dom should have my engine done around the same time as you. Also how come no DEI wrap coating? Keeps water and oil out of the wrap as well as adds another layer of thermal barriers. I actually got my headers+uppipe coated, gonna wrap both and finish it off with DEI wrap coating. Three layers of thermal barrier

That is DEI "titanium lava rock" wrap.

Here:

http://www.designengineering.com/cat...-lr-technology

I used it on my downpipe and I also have the DEI turbo blankie too. It looks great and it definetly helps control temps. I can touch my downpipe after a run.

BTW make sure to keep braided SS lines from touching the wrap. It's a bit fragile and the SS line will abrade it and fu it up.

I like the lava wrap. I have used the fiberglass stuff many a time. It makes you itch and doesn't hold up too well on a daily driver; or anything that sees rain for that matter. I have wrapped two exhausts now in the DEI wrap. On both cars I haven't seen any deterioration and one of them is a DD with over 6 months use.

Bariga, how much did the lava wrap cost you and where did you get it? You bought 100 ft? I like the APS preformed wrap or maybe do this and custom form some SS thin sheet metal fastening them with metal straps. Can't get APS anymore and it may nor fit.

Took me about an hour to fully wrap my Perrin headers in the same manner as bariga did his FR headers. I never said anything about an air gap, but I believe the same thing as Dom regarding uneven temps. Wrapping both runners at once just looks like ****... maybe you like to half-ass things on your car, but a lot of us do things right the first time. Why would you NOT want them wrapped individually? Isn't the point of doing this to keep heat in the headers?

The aps shields are just acl heat shielding
They come in raw sheets that you can cut and form
They're hard to get though in the states for cheap

I had the same feeling. I hope they're on target as Geoff says. I still need to get a couple things though.
