This is obviously an old thread, but I just did this one my 2012 base impreza. Nobody in the country had just the right hand key, so I had to get both sides with radio control and will just ignore since I have aftermarket stereo already.
I wish I saw this years ago, because I would advise the little clips are absolutely visible. You really need to contort yourself, but with a small light and a small pick, you can see the end of the spring clip poking through and hit it quick. I had to take off my steering wheel 3 times because I'm an idiot and lined it up wrong, but after figuring it out the first time, it took me less than 30 seconds to remove the airbag completely.

Are there any other "easter eggs" like the cruise control mod for our Imprezas?

I was able to grab the cruise only satellite from ebay for $50. I incorporated the existing audio satellite into it's harness and everything works flawlessly!
Pop the harness lock by prying it up on each side: Insert a safety pin in the smaller slot just above the harness pin and wiggle "north to south". Remove the safety pin. This will allow the harness pin to be pulled out: Once the audio control harness pins are removed, insert them into the cruise control harness, ports 6 (blue), 12 (white), 11 (orange): Next will be splicing the light power from each module together. If you aren't comfortable doing this, just skip it. I DO NOT recommend using any mechanical splices for two reasons: 1) Too bulky 2) Unreliable Splicing in a new wire to the audio control light + and - to create a "Y": (IMAGE LIMIT) Last edited by drblingdaddy; 07-29-2024 at 10:46 AM. |

I didn't bother to remove the steering wheel because I didn't want to mess up the steering wheel position or the clock spring. I simply rotated the rear shroud as needed to remove/reinstall the satellites. I did however remove the steering column cover by removing two screws and popping the top from the bottom. You'll also notice in the following picture that I removed the "bushing" or whatever it is called from the top of the inner steering wheel.
