Won't protest cheater bearings....or cheaper bearings? (cus...you know...they're the same).

I seem to have trouble keeping my engines together.

People seriously protest tow bars? You're allowed that in all classes as a stock provision right?

there are rules on tar bars, but they're legal if they dont exceed a certain size or connect in random places

That was a tongue in cheek comment. Tow bars are legal, but "tow packages" usually include stiffer rear springs, which can help rotation on a FWD car.

Falsifying factory documents identifying a "tow package" that never existed is not allowed (but has been attempted).

Ahh. My bad. I suddenly thought I would have to change classes or drive to events and remove it in the parking lot.

That's a shame because it probably also came with an upgraded transmission.

^^^It was over 10 years ago.......My memory isn't that sharp, not that the fine details matter. The important thing is that factory documentation should not be falsified.

$50 for the rims and tires? =)

It they weren't white... I might actually make a real offer... But I also have $0 especially if I'm getting hoosier for the last few important races this year.

I'm having a hard time finding the tires I want used (245/40/17 A6s), but I've found some other options and wanted some input.
Which would be faster (in theory), a 225/45 a6/v710 versus a 245/40 R6?
In other words, should I go for more width or stickier compound if I can't find the tires I want?

The V710 is going to last longer. However, it's not going to be as fast as the Hoosier, unfortunately. Also, when the Kumhos are done, they fall off very, very rapidly. The Hoosier falls off more gradually over time. Eduardo Arispe used the R6s on his DS WRX ('06) and had good success locally, but his car only had Tokicos on it and didn't rotate nearly as well as mine.

There are some tricks to getting more longevity out of the Hoosiers though. In stock trim, I found that I really only had to focus on the front tires. The rears I used at Nationals, for instance, were the same rears I'd used at Wendover and DC... and were, for all intents and purposes, dead. But that dead-ness allowed for better rotation in the rear.

Now, if you've got an ESP-prepped car, so that you actually can get some rotation without weird tire setups, you can also set it up so that you can rotate from front to rear on an event-by-event basis, to even out the wear and get more longevity from the tires too.

I might have some semi-decent 245/40R17 A6s to get rid of. I can't remember their condition (haven't used them since last November). I'm in the Baltimore area, so not too far from you. When I take inventory of my DS stuff (since the car is going under the knife for the ESP build next weekend), I will post up what I've got available.

Anyone upgrading their brakes or radiators? I haven't looked in the rulebook yet, but I understand that, new for this year, you can upgrade both. Probably not a big benefit for AutoX but helpful if you want to have a dual duty autox/track car.

I'm wondering which brake/radiator upgrades are legal and which aren't.

Ya, let me know what you've got once you look. My original question though was one of WIDTH vs COMPOUND. i've seen a few sets of 225 v710s and A6s, but I've been holding out for 245s. The only 245s i've found are R6s. I dont want to miss anymore autox's because I dont have tires, so I'm trying to figure out which option is the lesser of two evils.

What's the big deal with people wanting to change out their radiators? We run in very warm Southern CA and NEVER have over heating issues with OEM radiators ... with Suby's prepped to ST and SM rules. Most of us probably use Redline Water Wetter, but that doesn't do THAT much.

I know many National Champs that use oem brakes and pads. Drivers like Josh Sortor (STX Champ) and Gary Thomason (ASP and SS Champ). Save your money for the best tires and lighter wheels! I DID have Rotoro big brakes on my WRX ... and had other top drivers tell me that they felt "the best," but believe me, it didn't make me any faster.

Sorry. I didn't read carefully. The wider tire will be faster, especially if you have any kind of power increase over stock. The compound difference is neglible between the A6/R6. If anything, the R6 is probably a bit more heat resistant (since it's designed for roadracing), and therefore better in the mid-Atlantic nasty-heat.
