I'm supposed to go to the DC pro but apparently it takes a couple of weeks to get oversized bearings and piston rings from the dealer instead of the original 3 days I was told. Still waiting. My current engine is in no shape to be driving to DC much less AXing.

So happy to see the ESP set coming along. While I remain (too) dormant, I look forward to rejoining the passion of the Subie Nation. For now I will cheer on Karen and Greg as they put in the work required to challenge the best.

Every time I see that picture of Stompy on the blown front shock at Gwinnett it makes me think about the difference that engineering can make to a race car. I took FTD at that event with two dead shocks and two others that dyno'd over 2000# of shock force at 12"/sec (keep in mind that a blown shock still shows most of its force in compression, and little in rebound). My first crack at the setup was to go stiff, but I didn't plan on the shocks being the dominant compression factor. Needless to say the valving was a hair off, but 100% of the feedback I got at the event was to soften the springs. Fail.

I have been thoroughly enjoying the F1 season this year, as it has shown how important good design is on any level. Throw budgets out the window; I will put money on the competence of the (empowered) designer every time. Braun is a legend, and while the sport glorifies driving I think we have plainly seen that the chariot carries the driver in equal proportion. Since I have decided to go in a completely different direction with my mechanical engineering degree, I get to play in this arena as a hobby. I enjoy helping friends put the pieces together, and the more complex the puzzle the better, as far as I am concerned. This is a strong design that can accomplish far more than it has to this point, so Subie fans should be as passionate now as we were when the WRX first hit our shores, as the checkered flag has not yet started to fray

Every time I see that picture of Stompy in that particular turn, I think about the bruises I came home with after two weekends in a row of running that car on 1000lb springs.

It was actually on 650# springs at that point, but the shock forces kinda made that irrelevant...

A quick question here. At the last event I shattered 2nd gear in the stock trans. I'm looking at putting in MFactory close ratio gear set, which class would I be put into? Also thinking about installing a front LSD while its apart.

Is it going to put me into SM or FP?

Thanks
Brian

haha, I just did the same thing to mine (broke it, that is) a couple weeks ago. Andrewtech is just finishing a stock rebuild for me, and I'm praying it doesnt break every other season.

Picked the car up last night. It isn't done, but we want to start tuning the suspension... so, it'll go back for more next week.

The flares turned out nice.

Saleen Mustangs had a supercharger option.

but Ihave seen a Roush mustang (non supercharged) in ESP as well as a Shelby GT (non 500), in A Stock, being almost the same, they are in different classes.

Shelby GT should not be in AS. It's an FS car, so that was just someone running the wrong class. If it ran in street prepared, it would be ESP.

Roush Mustang will fall in whatever class the modifications put it into.

Superchargers are not an allowable addition in SP. So, since Saleen is considered a "manufacturer," the Saleen Mustang is listed separately from a Ford Mustang.

What did you both think of the car? I'm interested.

A subaru pretending to be a bmw, or a cp mustang?

I'm not sure yet. I really was scraping the rust off yesterday (last serious autocross was last November -- and the only other one since then was a horrible abortion of a wet event in a FSP SE-R on new V710s.... ), and the course was still moist in spots (random storm blew threw the area in the morning).

It's not a DS car any more, that's for sure. Unfortunately, there were some places -- like the aforementioned off-camber "showcase" turn -- where I came into it okay, but was way too tentative getting back on the gas because the idea that if I romp on the accelerator, it's gonna push, is so entrenched in my mind. I wish the car had been ready a week earlier, so I could get 8-10 runs with NASA down at VMP, which has similar grip.

Where the power comes on is also so different that it's going to take some getting used to.

I ran in the morning, with XP, so we messed a bit with the shock settings to get rid of some bounciness, and Gabe benefitted from what I did in the afternoon (and from better course conditions, but he also drove a lot better than he's driven in the past).

I thought it was interesting that I did beat BSP straight up, as usually the BSP crowd isn't too shabby. I wasn't sure how ESP is supposed to stack up to STU, and I was 0.7 off Mike Neary's best time.

I'm just wondering if I'm going to have to break down and get diffs. We weren't having tire spin issues, but.... I don't know.

This is me entering a slalom (badly -- I was trying to reacclimate to a wireless throttle after driving a Camaro for the last month, and also to a new power band) :

I'm pretty sure the "air" under the right side of the car is due to a bump, but if it's not, I need to do something. We'll see.

edit : I don't think those are brake lights -- I'm pretty sure my third brake light works just fine. Apparently, I ran with the headlights "on".

Well at least you've gotten to begin the meeting with the car, again. You're further along then you were a month ago, in that regard. The sorting and familiarity will come.
