True... So... Does that now mean we can use 4.44 final drive from Forester? Seems 5spd plus that that would be a good match with the evo and z06...

I have an FXT with a VF48, and let me tell you it would be a hoot on 315s

I'm torn... I don't want it to happen, but it makes complete sence. I mean the 08+ wrx and STI are already on the same line.

Plus the increased availability of part through update/backdate is nice...

Yeah, it's bs that they are kicking us out just because Greg beat a guy with a 26 year old car. But I do love the new possibilities with part swapping.

Wasn't this already happening before Greg won?

Meh. I'm not making my car any more autocross specific than it already is. If I had to go through the effort of UD/BD to be competitive, I'd go SM.

I don't feel like throwing that much money at my car, so it's easier to just sell it and do something else.

I got out of STX once the 2.5 got in there. The money to go to ESP was too much. The money to go to either ASP or SM is WAY too much.

Is it that much more work to prep for ASP than it is ESP?

With the Forester being added, you could swap to 4.44 final drive. Top of 2nd might drop to 64~65mph, but mechanical acceleration would increase, and less wear/tear on gearbox.

A full 09 WRX VF52 turbo/intake manifold/intercooler setup should be a great boost in power, while not having the "lag" of the bigger STI turbo.

And 5x114.3!!!!

Also, why is the EVO faster than the STI in ASP?

Top of 2nd is going to be lower than that...

Hmm... you're right. It's about 60.

Well, that's about the same situation that STI's are put into.

However, it looks like EVOs also only have about a top speed of 60 in 2nd gear?

You answered your own question.

Remember that I'm already close to the limit of what I can do in ESP. So, to me, that's a lot, and again, why? If I won the lottery and did all that to keep it SP legal, then went to sell the car, who outside of autocross would want it without the six-speed or a non-SP-legal transmission?

And please explain to me the desire to swap the final drive? I have no idea why that would be "ideal." I just want a more bullet-proof gearbox; I like the current gearing.

Remember that part of the "sell" to the ASP STis was the ability to UD/BD to the WRX transmission, ostensibly for the gearing. Who in an STi will give up reliability for the gearing? This is a real question.

Think of a higher final drive like gears on a bicycle.

With a taller gear at the pedals, and smaller gear at the rear, it takes a lot more strength to get going.

With a smaller gear at the pedals, and a larger gear at the rear, it takes much less strength to get up and going the same speed.

Only down side, is the lower top speed.

Yeah, I don't see any STI's wanting to swap to wrx gear boxes... unless they have a bunch on retainer.

A 4.44 would be awesome on the launch. I love my 5sp XT but

285/30/18 is 69 is second @ 8K

315/30/18 is 71 @ 8K

That's with traditional wrx 5sp ratios

Maybe but, unknown 8k would be pretty rung out, I'd think.

7600 is 65 and 67 mph

http://www.teammfactory.com/gear-calculator

I would be thinking more about D.I. low mount turbo engines...if I was thinking at all.

Which puts you right back at the STi gearing issue, but now with five-speed fragility.

So then, 07 6spd... added weight, but added durability. 7500 rpm = 66mph with 315s.

That's comparable to EVO and you get added resale value of a stronger transmission.

Wonder if my cusco rear r160 would hold up...

Lame! I was hoping to finally meet you.

Are you going to Packwood in July or Nationals this year?

Are you going Karen? You're the other ESP autocrosser I've been wanting to meet too

Both you and Greg have answered so many questions I've asked over the years, I want to buy you both a beer
