Interesting Air/Water intercooler thought
Someone tell me if you think this might work.
I got an air/water intercooler but the water isn't circulating. I also want to take out my airconditioner since I never use it anyway. Could I buy a 12V electric pump, and use the condenser from the air conditioning as my heat exchanger? Tell me what you think. Mike

I think you'd get better performance out of a purpose built cooler instead of an A/C condenser.....

i'm with LVS subaru on this one. I don't think the A/C condensor will work properly enough for something like this. but i guess if you never want to use that $300 condensor again then go for it.

If it won't work as well then never mind. I'll just get one that's the same size. I was hoping that since it was already in there and wired I could save time.

you are just better off putting an actual full air/water cooler kit in, plus then you can dumb ice in the tank for the races
 ...besidesi LOVE having AC i would NEVER get rid of it.jeremy |

Do they actually sell kits? Like with a pump and heat exchanger? If so, give me the web site, cuz I'm sure it'll work a lot better then any custom one I could make.
As for the AC I've had the car for a year and haven't used it yet (other then to test it when I bought the car) I just put all my window's down, and i'm ok. But I hopefully will be living in North Carolina starting in the fall, and it get's hotter there....... Mike |

I am running an air/water intercooler. I considered using an AC condenser but when i tried to flow water through it it was very resrictive. It is meant to flow gases not flow water. I passed on the standard "oil" coolers becuse the BTU ratings sucked. I went with a Saab heater core. Its a 12 pass cooler and is very compact yet it flows very well. As for a pump i have a Holley "Blue" fuel pump. It flows 110 gallons at 14psi. The cooling system doesnt have any back pressure so the flow is ever more. Just make sure you use a 50/50 mix of water/antifreeze to keep the pump from rusting solid.

WHat you could do is go out any buy a Moroso "cool can". We usually use these for cooling gas but you could apply it for cooling water.. Basically you would just put dry ice or regular ice in the cool can and just get a cheap 12v bildge pump that they use in boats. Around 20bucks at the local E&B marine. Cool can runs around 55. But then again I'm not sure what kind of driving you do unless you want to make pit-stops at all of the 7-11's you pass but just to buy some ice...Gerry
