Default 2012 Impreza thread

Quote:

We were smitten with Subaru's Impreza Concept from the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The production version will certainly be toned down for normal road use, and a report from Inside Line states that we could see the next-generation Impreza bow sooner than expected. In speaking with IL, Subaru of America's executive vice president, Tom Doll, confirmed that the 2012 Impreza will go on sale in the United States in August, meaning that an official reveal at April's New York Auto Show is very likely.

Like the current model, the 2012 Impreza will be offered in both sedan and five-door hatchback body styles, powered by the automaker's revised 2.5-liter Boxer flat-four that debuted in the 2011 Forester. We hope that Subaru keeps many of the Impreza Concept's lines intact for the production car, especially since we drool at the thought of what the STI-fettled version will look like.

This kind of falls under

but it's Subaru news none the less. Notable at minimum for "In speaking with IL, Subaru of America's executive vice president, Tom Doll, confirmed that the 2012 Impreza will go on sale in the United States in August." I'd like to note, though, that it states that the '12 will go on sale in August, but doesn't actually state whether or not it will be redesigned for 2012.

They will end up changing most of the details just like they did to the Legacy concept a few years ago.

The lighting and bumper cover designs did change, they always do from a flashy show car to an affordable production car.

But a lot of the Legacy concept went over to the Production version. Very unfortunately.

I am hoping that since I am much more pleased with the Impreza Design Concept, that the production Impreza will be similarly handsome, even if less flashy.

I kind of hope they keep the Aston-like, GT-R-like flush fit door handles, and keep the side mirror size to an allowable minimum, instead of the barn doors that seem to be fitted to new cars these days, since about 2010.

I thought that the production Legacy looked very darn close to the concept minus some of the futuristic lighting?

That is a nice color blue. Too bad the car itself is so painfully bland and bloated.

I'd really consider a next gen Impreza (probably wait for a turbo version, or a theoretical H6 version) in that color blue, or WRB.

As long as it's the current size, I'm not interested. Make it more compact again, and I might bite.

THe current impreza -> 2008,2009,2010,2011....

Short-lived.

I do believe that the current WRX/STI variants will continiue on into MY2012, even after the new impreza introduction.

That has been pretty much the consensus (WRX and STI migration delayed a year) for quite a while now.

My guess is they'll come out about 6 months after the regular Imprezas, which could push them into the next model year.

Not feeling the concept. This seems like one of those instances where I might like the production version more than the concept.

I'd rather a more functional STI wagon than a hatchback. Please allow it to accommodate a 500 series dog crate!

The autos.aol.com interview with Mahoney already indicated this:
Quote:
Looking at the way Forester doubled sales in a couple of years, Mahoney thinks the same is possible when the new Impreza comes out mid-year.
So yes, new model, mid year. I hope they don't cheapify the interior the way they did with the Legacy.

Guys... compare this to the Current Impreza and you will see the main change is the Front/rear Ends. Suby just came out with a new design in 08 so this isnt from the ground up but just a face/arse lift that is needed. The body line aft the A-Pillar are the same as the current Sedan. The rear now doesnt look like a Corolla. lol

I like this move because Subaru doesnt leak info on new vehicles like other makes. Can anyone find solid info on the Toyobaru? Wont shock me if its released with a similar but sharper face as we see here.

Please let the WRX look like that with a scoop!

And please... pretty, pretty please with sugar on it, NO MORE junk pistons!!! And no more intercooler sitting on top of the motor!! (Well I guess that eliminates the need for a hood scoop! LOL)

Not true. This is an all new design. They've moved to a 4-year product cycle.

I guess Subaru is stepping up big. After further review of the lines in the new 86 and the new Impreza (2012) the similarities are there. Do you think this is just a stretch version of the all new Chassis that is the Toyobaru? I wonder what the specs are chassis vs the current one.

I was planning on getting out of my 08 STI....I might need to wait and see what the STI version looks like of this

I do hope the WRX/STI comes out in March/April of 2012....waiting a full year after this release would be tough.

The article says that the Impreza will have the 2.5 liter engine. Are they just stating their assumption as fact? I thought it was going to be a 2 liter version.

Anyone else hoping that the hatch version looks something like the hybrid concept from 09? I like the Impreza concept, but I think I liked the hybrid concept even better.

I'm somewhat glad the Current Legacy didn't look like the Legacy Concept. That thing is Scary. It scares me to look at it. Walking outside my house with it staring at me.. with it's evil eyes.

they have the new 2.0 in a forester (Europe spec). its about 150hp and mostly unimpressive. They can keep it.. Give us the Diesel dag nab it

I have a 2011 WRX sedan, and I can tell you that the concept's body line behind the A-pillar is completely different that my current sedan.

It would be a redesign from Subaru.
