STi air-water intercooler??
Is this really an sti part or is it just a standard one painted in silver and with some different stickers?
A standard air-water IC: An STi one?: (all the pics are here ) Besides the different color, and the different stickers, the silver one has 2 caps or two openings in the top, while the black one has only one...so maybe it is an STi part? Anyone knows anything about this?

I think its only a standard subaru air-water. knowing that its a legacy chassis with the EJ20T engine. Sti made only a handful of the ultra rare legacy turbo STi RA, and I think they still used the stock air-water IC. But yes, to me it looks like a standard legacy turbo with the stock air-water

Those are right hand drive right? The location of the brake fluid resovoir and wind sheild wiper motor is freaking me out.
On the right side of the picture on the rear most intake runner is a tan colored item, is that the Idle controller? Where would the ABS controller go on these cars? |

Yes they are right hand drive cars, and if I recall correctly, ABS was optional not standard on RS turbos.
And I still think this MIGHT be something different from the standard IC...I mean I see 2 caps in the top of the silver one v/s 1 cap in the top of the black one... |

If you look real close you can see a hole where the cap should be on the black one.

Looks like it was home made to me. I did something similar on my supra.
The easiest way is to make the box the way you want from cardboard. Get it exactly the right size then use the cardboard as stencils to cut the material. I bought a big peice of broken plexiglass for cheap and made a decent looking air box. biggreen96: I think the silver one is different, I used photoshop to brighten up the areas of the two other pics and no hole exists on the passenger side of the intercooler for the black ones. |

I have a '91 Legacy RS with the black water/air intercooler....AFAIK the only difference between the black & silver units is the silver one has a water level indicator/sensor which is the connector on the RH side of the intercooler...my black one doesn't....in terms of capacity etc, they're the same.

Yeah, combo stepper and metal "heat" spring. What about just setting it at a decent point, and let the metal spring take care of cold to warm transition? Your idle would be different based on the weather but still in a good range. I was playing with mine once, turning the valve by hand.

Man, the inlet on that looks very small and some weird bends. Forced induction may overcome this but still!
Here, old but might give you an idea. http://www.chez.com/ciper/iac/iac.html Last edited by ciper; 12-18-2002 at 11:39 PM. |
