The Mag did it again.
Caused a big accident took Perez , Hulk and himself out.
Both Alpines collide before the tunnel. Ocon is out. Looks like he pissed off the team boss for that manuver.
Sainz gets lucky. Gets a punture on the first turn. Race gets red flag.

Boring! Boring! Boring!
All the top drivers did was change tyres after the 1st lap red flag and cruise the rest of the race.
Max and Lewis tried a tyre change but still couldn't get past Russell with 50 lap old tyres.

in any case, no amount of deflector is going to reduce road spray for the car behind; just not possible.

I think changing a tire becomes a bit more difficult for those deflectors on.

Just throw some Rally Armor flaps on there and they are good to go...can even color match to the car's livery.

I see our ol' pal Flavio is going to make a comeback to Apline.

Also NASCAR Stewart-Haas is closing up shop after the '24 season.
Don't know what that means for the Haass F! Team.

When I turned on FP1 and it started with a shot of the special livery McLaren... I didn't know they were going to run that Senna/Brazilian flag livery in Monaco and my immediate thought was it was a Monaco special livery for the old Benetton F1 team that eventually became Renault/Alpine, as a throwback to early 90s Benetton colors.
Seriously, look up like a 1992 or 1993 Benetton F1 car, same yellow front, green in back, and a blue stripe across the nose (albeit blue stripe with "FORD").

Also, regarding the actual race. Agree it can be categorized as a snooze fest but I am glad that LeClerc finally broke his Monaco GP curse with a win, and Piastri got on the podium.

If only HAAS could have made things work. Smart call at the opening of the race. Ferrari strikes (out) again! And more points for Alpine. Is this the most DNF during a race under the current F1 (car) rules set?

Alpine may abandon works Renault engine to become customer F1 team

https://www.crash.net/f1/news/105080...stomer-f1-team

After lobbying hard for these hybird engines and 10 years later they still can't get it right and apparently never will.

Alpine not running Renault engines...that would be weird.

I know they are the "Alpine" team now, but for all intents and purposes, they are still the Enstone based on-again off-again Renault team. Since they took over from the old Benetton F1 team. I associate Alpine more with European rally victories that occurred before my time, but I digress.

If they ditch their own manufacturer engine and opt for Red Bull, that would make strange bedfellows. I remember when Red Bull - Renault was synonymous with championships around 2010, but the Red Bull team and the Renault engine side fell out pretty hard after the turbo era started in 2014.

Times from today's qualifying session for the Aramco Gran Premio de Espana.

Pos Driver Team Time Gap
1 Norris McLaren 1:11.383 145.941 mph
2 Verstappen Red Bull 1:11.403 0.020

4 Russell Mercedes 1:11.703 0.320
5 Leclerc Ferrari 1:11.731 0.348
6 Sainz Ferrari 1:11.736 0.353
7 Gasly Alpine 1:11.857 0.474
8 Perez Red Bull 1:12.061 0.678
9 Ocon Alpine 1:12.125 0.742
10 Piastri McLaren No Time
11 Alonso Aston Martin 1:12.128
12 Bottas Stake 1:12.227
13 Hulkenberg Haas 1:12.310
14 Stroll Aston Martin 1:12.372
15 Zhou Stake 1:12.738
16 Magnussen Haas 1:12.937
17 Tsunoda RB 1:12.985
18 Ricciardo RB 1:13.075
19 Albon Williams 1:13.153
20 Sargeant Williams 1:13.509

This race will be as entertaining as Imola. Not much passsing.
Maybe this will be an entertaining season.
Did somebody lit a fire under Alpine rear?
AM is going backwards.
Did Sianz really sign with Williams? That could be career suicide.

Let us hope this quali. mix is an indicator of the rest of the racing this season. Shake things up and keep it genuinely interesting. Seems MCL and MB are getting a handle on their cars (maybe in MB's case, drivers finally coming to grips with the car's characteristics). Alpine suddenly improving after Briatore shows up? Hmm.... Speaking of, OCO and PIA alongside each other on the grid could be dangerous at the start.

Not sure what the best move could have been for SAI at this point. Audi would probably be the better choice in the end given their history in motorsport, but he might not be retained long enough to see the results. Get more teams in there (like Andretti) to open up more seats and it would be hilarious if Alpine becomes a customer for GM/Cadillac power units since it seems they will not use Renault as engine supplier (really?!).

Result of the Aramco Gran Premio de Espana.

Pos Driver Team Laps Gap
1 Verstappen Red Bull 66 1h 28:20.227

7 Piastri McLaren 66 + 0:33.760
8 Perez Red Bull 66 + 0:59.524
9 Gasly Alpine 66 + 1:02.025

17 Magnussen Haas 65 + 1 Lap
18 Albon Williams 65 + 1 Lap
19 Tsunoda RB 65 + 1 Lap
20 Sargeant Williams 64 + 2 Laps

Max wins again but not by much.
Did Alpine secretly swapped cars with AM.
Stinker race by RB.
Only passing was on the long straight with DRS.
At least the next 2 races are good tracks.
It took 15 laps for the steward to informed the Mag that he jumped the start. Guess they did not want him to undercut Alonso.

What happen to the Ferrari updates?
Why do these long pit stints never work? We'll go longer and get them at the end. It seems that it's always off by 2-3 laps.
