Default Squirells check in.. but they don't check out.

The birdfeeder of death...

My dad was mowing the lawn today and noticed an offending odor when passing a green birdfeeder that we have mounted on a post in the lawn.

it is one of the ones with the weight system on it so that it shuts when something large like a squirell or blue jay get on to it.

upon closer inspection he noticed fur.. and a foot protruding from the seed holes.

apparently a squriell had figured out how to get into the birdfeeder.... but never figured the "out" part out... and died in there.

I guess it's got to be the squirell equalivalent of a guy drowning in beer.

thanks.. initally when I was walking to my room after hearing my dad tell the story.. I was thinking birdfeeder of death..

but then the present topic line jumped to mind..

a subject line can make the difference in a good thread... and a dead one.

Did the birds continue to feed out of the feeder?

likely..

don't know for sure, I am not much of a bird watcher.
didn't pay attention.

if they did.. they all have blood lust now.
they're off hunting squirells.. because I can't say I've seen one in the last few days.

Wow. I need to install some of those bird feeders around my house, so those damned squirrels will stop trying to burrow into my attic...

We were talking about this over dinner.

apparently to open this bird feeder you have to squeeze two tabs to lift the top, the only way you could fit a squirell inside..

it must have taken said squirell a long time to figure this out...
too bad squirells aren't very good about thinking ahead.

we just put a dent in squirell evolution by killing off one of the smartest ones..
