Default What A 94 Impreza Looks Like After Burning 1/2H

This happened last night, 2am. A truck with flat tire pulled a little bit over but not too well from the road. Pitch black night, the truck lie in wait behind a blind corner. Turned the corner doing 90km/h, slammed on the brakes, full 360, whacked my head on the A-Pillar and awoke from the flames in the engine bay.

Minor burns to my face and hands, without a seat belt I'd be dead or gravelly injured and lying in the middle of a dark road waiting for help. Having fun with insurance right now, should be a bit of a battle (when isn't it?).

Wow! At least you walked away from it. I don't suppose you had all your mods insured?

Again, way more important that you came out of it relatively unhurt, given how bad it could have gotten.

Its sad to see a car die, but it seemed to die saving your life.

Car fires are no joke. I've seen 5 of them (and I didn't start a single one )

It took (as stated) only 30 minutes to do that to the car. In person you can see the windows actually melted, pooled and reformed into glass chunks. The amps melted and left only a vague skeletal outline of what they were, all the exterior pieces melted... Scary stuff. Hard to believe that is what is left, that frame is all I saw after leaving the hospital.

That's crazy. Glad to hear you're alright. Is the first pic of the car intact old? It's got a Sask plate on it and your location says Ontario.

Wasn't your car one of the rare "Acadia Green" RS? New paint job?

I recall it from one of the first Calgary meets a few years back.

Wow, glad you're okay, that's what matters the most.

Yea I made it to a Calgary meet a while back, rained but everyone still drooled over the STi. The technical paint scheme is "Blue-Green Metallic", now it's more of a white custom fade.

Sill walking. Face is a bit puffy from the burn but I was never that pretty to begin with.

Not really sure... Hit the brakes, swerved, did a 360 (or a few, not sure), knocked my head against the A post and knocked myself out. Timeline shows me unconscious sitting in the car for almost one hour before waking up from the heat of the engine fire.

Had the appropriate fuse at the battery for my stereo, but with all the cords/wires/tubing snaking everywhere up there don't know...didn't stick around to really investigate either after rousing. It seemed to be centered around the fuel filter at the point in time when awoke and looked forward (the collision took my hood slightly off and to the passenger side).

oh wow, that's a crazy pic. Amazing how well these cars hold up to accidents.
On a positive note, now that silly looking hoodscoop is no longer in existance.

good luck with insurance. That can be the most painful process of all.

So if I understand correctly... the trucker changing his flat took off when you crashed? or he just decided to let you burn for over an hour?

I'm sorry to hear about your car. I remember meeting you and sitting in your car at the big meet in Calgary/Cochrane/Boston Pizza in 2003. I hope you are recovering ok.. I forgot your name tho.

Damn, from the look of things you should be glad you were able to walk away from all that. What was the limit on the road you were going on though?

Truck was abandoned, no flashers/flairs anything. Hard to see on a starless night in the middle of nowhere after a blind turn.

Limit for the road is actually posted at 100 but I was going a little slower as there is a lot of deer right now; I thought I was being cautious... (xenon bulbs are awesome)

Wow, over 300 views. The thing I just wanted to bring home was the extreme importance of seat belts and how no matter what you do to your car...it all becomes worthless in the end and can't compare with waking up beside your wife.

I'd rather be alive than have my hood scoop back.

No doubt my friend.
As long as you have your health, the cars can be replaced. Even the time and effort you've invested in custominzing can be done again as long as you're still breathing.
