yeah, this is like the TopGear comparison. Clarkson went on and on saying how the STi was crap, ugly, bad handling and how the EVO was sharp, pretty, and hero making.
Then the STi went and lapped faster. The EVO seems sharper, the STi is actually quite good. Now the STi is ugly, but I'd rather not be in the shop all the time with a mitsu. |

I think that most of the time lost in the Stig's laps were off the line. The STi has the MR beat by almost a second to 60 and the MR (well what ever the SST equiped car with 300HP is called in the UK) made up all but .02 sec at the end of the lap. I think had they used the MT 300hp version of the EVO it would have been quicker as it has been in most other tests....As to the reliability, I currently own a Subaru and a Mistu and have owned a Mitsubishi since 1990 and have had the same number of reliability issues with both..none. I personally don't think the STi is a drop dead pretty car but it is agressive looking although they really should do something about the lines around the front bumper and grill. With the new WRX/STis I wonder if Subaru intentionally left performance on the table knowing that owners interested in warranty coverage would buy the SPT parts (ie more profit). Out of the box, the EVO is more put together but, unless you have a good relationship with your local Mistu dealer, most things that you would like to do, you can't without voiding your warranty. Why Mitsu has not taken Subaru's, Ford's, Dodge's, Honda's etc lead and use their Ralliart brand to make tuner performance parts is beyond me. I think I would have been happy with either car....but the Mitsu dealer let me test drive without plopping down $500 for a test drive....so, EVO it was. |

Someone brought the new evo by my dealership, it looked really bad, I gotta say. Fugly as hell, and interior seemed very cheap and nasty. It sounds like it drives well, but ugh. Makes me enjoy my 08 sti all the more

News flash: The Evo is faster on a track, the STI is faster everywhere else, and has vastly more cargo capacity, whilst being a whole bunch uglier. Choose depending on your needs & wants. Either one driven at more than 50% of their abilities on public roads should cost you your license.

I think they are both 5 star rated. Really, it comes down to personal preference...or in my case, what you are allowed to test drive. |

Getting back on topic:
The OP's video: [YouTube: WRX STI vs. Evo X: What's the REAL Story?] by TheGrid23 States the following: Quote:
So, TheGrid23 is accusing Subaru of paying Garage419 for a "phony 'tuner video' to 'prove' that tuners prefer the STI over the new EVO." Lets look at Garage419's video: [YouTube: EVO X or New STi? Let the Tuners Decide - Part 1] & [Part 2] Quote:
Awesome. Please post more idiotic YouTube user comments (videos preferably, that makes them practically peer reviewed) in the News and Rumors forum, aboogabooga. That was a great way to get my daily dose of internet stupidity. |

Stock Evos on the most of the dynos I have seen are in the neighborhood of 250-260WHP. Alot of guys are getting 50whp from a reflash alone. below are some with a bit more.... http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=355646 http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=357587 |

Even thought I dont even own a 2008 STI, LOOK AT THE EVOLUTION PICTURES those pictures are with VOLKS rims or whatever the rims are. Slap some VOLKS and flush it out with some coilovers who wins the look contest ? I think the STI DOES.

I really really really dislike the look of the new Evo. I'm puzzled every time I hear people say it's the better looking car but that seems to be the consensus.

Has nobody watched the first episode of this new season of Fifth Gear? Tiff Needel and Jason Plato have a shootout with the STI and EVO FQ330. The STI handily wins one portion of the test (the EVO is so slow off the line and reacts so badly to the handbrake that Tiff spends his time during the slalom screaming at the car for being so slow) and practically ties the road course with Plato driving the STI sideways the whole time.
What do they declare in the end? The more expensive, heavier, less sideways car with the buggy gearbox is "clearly the better track car". While I've never heard of anyone, outside of the biggest fanbois on NASIOC, say that that the STI is a better stock car in a track environment... the OP's youtube video accuses Subaru of paying for praise. (no, I haven't watched the 'tuner video' it's supposedly a response to.) The Fifth Gear segments really have made me wonder just who's paying for lip service. I saw this video as well.....The SST just has limitations. Again, why not test the MT....I think the SST looks very interesting and I bet the EVO XI has all these issues fixed...one reason I bought the MT. |
