Gotta love the 10/22..especially with dual 50 round clips. Though my Remington 870 Express Tactical with a 9" mag extension is a hoot as well (nothing like shooting flames out of a 18" barrel)

Shotguns are always a barrel of fun.

It appears we definitely have some interest in this. I suppose now we need to figure out a location that works for everyone and a date.

A nice gravel pit or mountain area legal for shooting would be ideal. A little drive and then some low cost fun. After buying ammo i don't feel like paying someone to shoot. Would rather spend it on gas.

I'm down for some Trap. I have a remmington 870 sup.mag. that I haven't shot in about 6 months. Renton or black diamond maybe?

I love it, but ammo isn't exactly cheap for it these days. 7.62x51

Let's do this.

Let's go on a drive to capital forest in oly, enumclaw, northbend, snoqualmie and then shoot at a gravel pit. Sounds like fun. I've got an AK that I just got done building and need to shoot.

I know some spots above Greenwater (Enumclaw).
Nice drive up there and the roads aren't that bad.

I'd be interested too, except it's nice to get to know people before hand, especially a shoot.

Along those same lines, I don't think a rangemaster should be ever yelling at you, unless you are breaking some stupid rule. Most of the rifle ranges around here only allow one round per magazine (dang it, at least let me have 3 rounds for sighting in!).

I have an ever increasing arsenal, but I tend not to shoot lately because I'm trying to save money to buy more guns, before the current administration takes them away.

I've been thinking this from the beginning.
I think there are two people I actually hang out with in this thread. The rest of you are just names on a forum.

But honestly, it's not a whole lot different than any other day at the gravel pit. You rarely know the folks out there. I've seen some people do some stupid things and I've only been out to a gravel pit once.

I checked for people I know. Yep, two.

At least I've bought parts from you.

I've been to a few different gravel pits, and while the freedom is fun, I've been scared to death a few times. Most of the time I try to travel with some friends that have shot together before.

One incident was with the nicest fellow. We chatted a bit and talked about different guns. I asked if I could see his gun and he handed it to me with the barrel pointing straight at me.

I tend not to be a range Nazi, but it's needed sometimes.

I thought about pointing out that you're exempt since you bought the hood off my favorite car ever.

Sometimes a strong hand is needed. Communication with the others on your firing line is key. Especially for setting up/taking down targets.

We had a guy, when there was pause in firing for reloads or whatever, just walk out and try to place his targets. We all yelled at him because no one had called the line cold yet. Then we called the line cold for people to calm down.

You have PM.

I have also been sitting here thinking about shooting etiquette at a gravel pit.
I think once we all meet up and get to where we plan on shooting, we need to have a meeting. Something like a Drivers Meeting before a Rally X.
Setting the rules before hand will lead to no mis-communications and accidents later.

Ok. I don't have any personal experience with these guns, but I've been chatting with several guys for many years, and these seem to be their firearms of choice.

For a handgun, I'd be looking for a carry weapon. This is the category where I think I'm going to have to be doing the most shopping. I'm drooling over a Kimber carry 1911 right now, but come on, who doesn't.

For a shotgun, I'm looking at a Remington 870 and using this kit on it.

For a rifle I'm thinking either a 16" or 20" Cav-15. I'm pretty good internet buddies with two guys who work there, and I know they'd cut me a break on cost, and the general opinion is they make some damn nice rifles. http://www.cavalryarms.com/rifles2.html

This all, of course, could be up for change depending on getting more experience on more guns.
I just recently got interested in a .45. I'm still not sure about it as a carry weapon. I know lots of people do it. Even though I practice quite a bit, I'm still not comfortable with the idea of cocked and locked. It may sound like Blasphemy, but if you like the .45 round, you would be better off with a glock in .45.

The best gun is the one that you carry. I tend to find that early on I carred large, and eventually didn't like it.

For jogging, I like the Smith Airweight series. I have a 642. My P228 just flopped around all over the place. The negative is the Airweights are hard to shoot, and even with the lightest rounds they have sharp recoil. It is definately not a fun gun to shoot. Because it is so light and small though, you can just throw it in a pocket.

wow that sounds familiar...

I've got a 10/22, XD9 SC, lower half of an AR-15 I am building, and also a CZ SP-01 tactical.

Pretty close.

Cool

Sup guys.

Been away from the NWIC for a while, but i'm down for a firearms meet (was locked for trying sell an AR-15 here in 2006 without reading the rules, whoops).

I'm a member at Wade's, so if you wanted a quick and dirty close range site in with your rifle, drop me a PM. Rifle League on Friday night is some of the best firearms practice you can get in the Seattle/Bellevue area, and you don't have to be a member to participate. Shooting at static targets standing still is great, shooting on the move in competition is even better. Rifle league doesn't have really high speed **** like urban prone barricades, but it does have transitions and low light shooting with your rifle/pistol. Think IPSC/IDPA with rifles/pistols, or 2-gun.

I'd be down for a day trip to a pit in March. The only pit I know is in Lewis County, so any place closer to Seattle would be sweet

BTW: i've got a HDPE level III plate and plate carrier i can lend to someone if they feel uncomfortable... like a SO or something. Drop me a PM.

ETA: We gotta organize a road trip to Oregon for Class III goodies sometime. WA's silencer laws make me sad

ETA2:

The Tacoma sportsmans club would be a good option. They have a shotgun, pistol, and rifle range. All for only 10 bucks. Lot's of shooting positions and the rifle range is 200yd. I would be willing to get in on this.
The Tacoma Sportsmans club is major fail. I used to shoot there in college, their rules are fudd-tastic, the range nazi is a moron, and the brass fiend is annoying.

With ammo prices (and availability), NWIC should have a reloading party instead of a range day.

I think Dillon 550b press is in my future.

It's pretty easy to pick up on. I bought myself a RCBS single stage kit, but i'd get a Lee kit to start off on, and pick up a progressive down the line.

Startup costs are expensive, but only a few thousand rounds later you'll have recouped it all.

Buy primers/powder in bulk, and with friends to save on hazmat charges.

The prices of ammo have spilled over to reloading components though. More noobs asking for reloading help than ever...

Generally, it's easier to load for rifle rounds than it is to load for pistols. A lot harder to completely mess up and blow your gun apart too. I'd start loading rifle rounds as a noob, and build confidence. Remember that reloads should stick to the lower side of published loads unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

Noobs trying to roll MK 262 Mod 1 clones out the gate = disaster.

Factories have access to much more consistent/controlled/tested components than off the shelf reloaders.
