Tein Owners....Please Read!
I am getting the Tein HA setup from TRI in the next few days and want to know what springs you guys / gals have on your setups. I am looking to go with a very stiff setup (read-stiff as possible) and want to here your rates and feelings about the handling of the vehicle. I also want to know what the Kg rating equate to in Lbs/In if anyone knows. Thanks for your assistance!
Doug

The standard fitment for a Tein HA is 7kg/mm front and 6kg/mm rear. That's 391lb/in and 335lb/in versus the stock rates of 157lb/in and 149lb/in.
That should be sufficient to satisfy your desire for a firm ride... |

Yeah, the 7-6kg/mm combo is pretty good. With the struts set full soft you can cruise around wihout people complaining.....even with girls in the car. Turn the struts up on rough roads though and you'll definately know that it isn't the stock suspension, and probably wish it was.

Cool...so the 10kg set that I am looking to order is 590lbs/IN? That sounds pretty stiff...oh well, I guess I can stay with the 16" rims if it turns out to be too hard, lol!
Thanks, Doug P.S. Anyone have the 10kg set? |

Out of curiosity, have you ever ridden in an Impreza with springs that stiff?
When Alex did a big TEIN groupbuy ... hmm, early this year? Last year? I'm getting old... Anyway, a number of folks were put off by the harsh ride of the 7kg/6kg spring rate. Bassem, who unfortunately seems not to post any more, got his through another source but switched the springs for 5kg/4kg (IIRC) and was much happier. |

I am running a 340 / 300 setup with the Ground Control / AGX now and it is not stiff enough...therefore, I thought I would go a little higher on the spring rates. I would call and ask Tein, but am not sure how to get in touch with them. Chris (TRI) has been trying to help me out in getting these, but like most people, has not seen a rate this high on an Impreza yet. If I hate it, can I switch the springs later like Bassem did? Any ideas on cost to do that? I am assuming that the dampers are the same for all the springs (which seems odd) so I shouldn't have a problem, right?

Preza,
When you say "standard", are you refering to the 7/6 setup? I have driven mine for a couple of weeks with the current setup at 4f/10r and thought it was quite livable as far as ride comfort goes. That is part of the reason I didn't think the 10/10 set would be that bad. I have the desire to have the car setup very tight for the street, as most of my driving is freeway / higher speeds. I generally run a 215/45/17 tire in the non-snow months, so that takes care of sidewall flex. I will try this with my winter wheels (16") and see what the ride is like before I order my new summer wheels, though. Doug |

i've got 8kg/mm fr and 6 kg/mm rear. The car is really stiff - dampening is set @ 10f 16 rear. anything over 100k and you can't really feel it - the car floats. over small dips and bumps however - you'll be jolting like a mofo. i highly recommend this setup if performance rates highly above comfort - my car handles like it's on rails right now - keep in mind though, i've just fully stripped my interior so i could scrape off all the sound deadening material - i know i'm a freak!
TMR:-) PS:10kg/mm is definately too stiff - i'm 19 and crazy, and i even think it's too stiff! |

Hey TMR...why are you removing the sound material? Are you going to leave the interior stripped or just put it all back again? Got any pictures of the process? Thanks for the spring info...I would like to know, though if anyone knows if all the dampers are the same on the teins or if each rate is valved differently. Anyone? Bueller?
Doug "9 Times!" If you get thas, you are at least 25! lol |
