Hey everyone. So I just installed my dad's old Thule Summit box onto my 2004 WRX sedan. I have driven a little bit with it, haven't gone on the highway yet. I don't have a short roof adapter so I'm wondering if this setup will work out alright for me.
-Zack PS- I don't really check this thread that often so if anyone can offer advice feel free to PM me.

How much extra wind noise are you guys getting with just a cross bar setup with no gear loaded up? Are fairings helpful?

I've got enough wind noise that the sunroof is never open at highway speeds

Not yet. I want an inno, we'll see how long until I actually get one. I'm trying to beef up my savings account right now, and this isn't the best time of year to do that with holidays and all...

Hey JAMM0N,
Are you using the Q82 clips on your 2013 WRX 5-door? If so, you might want to look into some options using the fixed mounting points. I had Q-Towers on my 2007 Impreza, and couldn't be happier to finally leave that behind. Definitely a strong system, but I really wanted either roof rails or fixed mounting points on my next car. I originally tried the Landing Pad 11 and Control Towers on my 2013 5-door. I really didn't like the look of it, and it seemed like a fairing would be necessary since the round crossbars sit up high and would make a lot of noise. I took the Yakima system back and got a Thule system with the AeroBlade bars and Rapid Podium feet. It looks fantastic, and I didn't notice any wind noise at highway speeds. Plus I love how it interfaces with the car compared to the Q-Towers. Just something to think about. |

Sounds like a fairing might be in order. A WindJammer will also cut some noise down, but not as much as the fairing according to Yakima. I've used a WindJammer in the past but not a fairing.

That was w the fairing but winds were pushing 10 mph. 4 inches away from the front trim. Think thats too far back??

Not too sure. Hopefully someone with some fairing experience will chime in.

I see a lot of people with them real close to the windshield trim, I keep mine about 4 inches back where the roof starts to go "flat" so to speak. The Thule dealer had told me it works best back there too.
