Jeff,
With the medium wastegate actuator and max preload you where only able to acheive 20psi with the electronic boost control? What are you able to acheive with the boost reference plumbed directly to the wastegate? What I understood from the EFR document is the 20 psi max that you can apply to the wastegate is the max boost reference not the max pressure the turbo should be able to run with said actuator. If your boost target is 30psi and your wastegate duty cycle is 50% the effective pressure sensed at the wastegate should be about 15psi which is below the 20psi max right? Maybe the EBCS is leaking. Also do you know what the PWM frequency is that you are sending to the EBCS?

turbo looks awsome, it still concerns me that you cant run over 20psi, most anyone replacing a turbo with the size of a 30 or 35r one your gunna run over 20psi makes me happy im running TS EWG

Jeff.....I've already turned purple holding my breath
Looking forward to the data and dyno comparisons. Good luck to you during the tests! Cheers, Jasper. |

Waiting on the results, going with either the new GTX3076r .63 or the EFR7670 based on these results. Will give up a few WHP for a faster spooling turbo IMO that equals more fun.

Until the GTX came out, my all time fav turbo was Jeff Sponagle's 08 STI w/ .63ar GT3076. He had logs up in all the gears. I kinda think that the GTX3076 is too big for the smaller turbine housing. I also think that a GTX3071 might do very very well w/ the .63 ar housing. It does flow about the same as the old 3076, so maybe it would have a slight boost threshold advantage, and possible better spool and response (when above boost threshold) due to smaller lighter comp wheel. I am also starting to think that the 7064 may be a better comparison to the the GTX3071 .63, or old 3076 .63, then the 7670. I was always using MB using conservative numbers for WHP, and staying well within the efficiency islands. I did spedn some time looking at the old GT charts, and demand curves for our 2.5 engines, and found that Jeff is quite right, we do go past the efficiency islands on the GT turbos as well. So the 400ish whp club might be best served by the GTX3071 .63 or the EFR7064. I guess we will know fairly soon. |

Looks like it's spooling about the same as the GT/GTX3076

Ok, so the story goes like this.
Full-Race really stepped up and hooked me up by getting me the high pressure WG canister, and at the same time let me barrow that monster 9180, which was awesome! Well BW drop shipped the wrong WG canister and was shipping me the correct one for today. Well Raffi and i are guessing they forgot to check off Saturday delivery on their machine. So no high pressure WG canister was installed. So since the car was ready to dyno, i cranked up the preload to 10mm on the WG and did some runs. First pull with 0% WGDC was a whopping 10psi! That didn't seem right, but whatever, i set my target to 1.2 bar and continued. I had to run about 45% climbing to 70% to hit a perfect 1.2 bar of boost. Runs were looking really good and power seemed pretty good also. I loaded the GT3076R w/.82 and 1.2 bar of boost and started to compare. Before i go further, this is with the Medium WG canister, not the correct high pressure one, which should be better. The blue line is the GT3076R w.82, the Red line is the EFR7670. Comparing HP, you can see the EFR start to kick butt at 6000 over the GT. At this point, this turbo is comparing closer to the GT35R not the GT30R. I will put up some GT35 comparos in a few. |

Ok, here is the GTX3582R with .82 running 1.2 bar of boost against the EFR7670. It for sure responds better than the GT3582R.
Here is the HP graphs compared now this is a GTX3582R not a GT3582R. As we know the GTX compressor map is way more efficient than this one. The GT3582R is probably HP wise closer to the EFR. The EFR runs actually have slightly less timing (maybe 1.5 degrees) and if i push it, i know i can make more HP at the same boost level as the GTX. The crappy thing is, i can't run more than 18psi of boost at redline with this actuator. I did a few runs trying to run 1.5bar and it does it right up until 4500 then is just drops like a rock. So i have comparisons, but they are not good. Poop happens and it sucks it happened today! The 9180 i have sitting here would have the same boost control issues and i am going to wait to throw that on until i get the correct actuator. The boost i am seeing, with no WGDC really makes me wonder...... Why so low?? |
