accessory belt snapped off 15 STi
hi guys,
my accessory belt came off during a drive back to work. i lost all power steering, battery light came on, and had to muscle the car into a parking lot. mileage is ~36,000. its now at the dealer waiting for repairs. what kind of cost do you guys see coming my way? -Mark C

my apologies for asking the question that is specifically labeled as "questions we cannot answer." *facepalm*
i do have a 2 years left on my drivetrain, but the belt (as a consumable) is no longer covered. i will just hang tight and wait for the phone call. thanks! |

I would check if the pulleys are in good condition.
Kinda weird that the belt only lasted this long. Could be a defect. |

IMHO, on a '15, Subaru should do the right thing and cover the cost of parts and labor.

it is really weird that the belt snapped this early. When i was removing the pieces i did not see any grooving, or chunking of the pulley (that i could see).
It would be really nice for them to eat the cost. but i HIGHLY doubt this will be the case. i will definitely try to work something out though!! |

As a recent comp, while getting a short block (FB, not EJ) and valve springs, I had a new belt put on. $60 at the dealer doing the warranty work. They didn't charge me for labor.

I had a local ask me about a quote. They needed some engine work done (not a Subaru) and I had suggested that while work was being done, do the timing and accessory belts since they had to come off anyway for the other work. They were quoted for the belts and install labor for all of it. I told them to NOT pay labor since reinstalling belts was part of the main job. It matters not if a new belt or old belt...... |

guys FWIW i spoke with them today. apparently i am going to need new crank pulley, timing belt cover, belts (power steering, alternator, etc.). He quoted me orignially at $265, then followed with "even though you are a few hundred miles out of warranty, we will cover all costs"
even though they have terrible reviews online (bertera subaru of hartford) they still hooked me up. for that i will leave a great review. |

honestly, I swear I could pass mine off as new
even the white lettering on the outside looks totally new no cracking on the inner ribs at all I suppose there's a possibility last time I got it inspected they gave me a list of knick knacks it needed to pass and maybe I just don't remember that item and said go ahead |

i was actually told by Subaru that the crank pulley failed causing the belt to shred and destroy itself. |

did you see it?
I was wondering how it even failed? Like the OD broke a chunk off or something? |
