Post Solo II Results

Well, another Utah autocross has been finished and another Subaru wrecked. We have had 3 evens this year. 2 of them at the E-Center and both E-Center events have resulted in a Subaru wrecking. The first a 2000 RS ran into a light pole, and this one a new WRX jumped a curb and hit a fence. In 2 years of racing I have only seen 1 other wreck and that was at the samevenue and no Subaru involved. But 2 out of 3 wrecks involved Subarus. Are Subaru drivers just asses or what? Just kidding, I know we rock

But anyway, Subarus took STS again. 17 STS competitors, Subarus took 1st, 2nd, & 4th. In PAX I think there was about 90 competitors, the STS Subarus took 2nd, 3rd, and 6th overall. I have a really bad feeling that STS is going to have a much harder PAX number next year.

Who the heck is designing courses down there? One wreck, that's ok, I guess (although my region HAS never had a wreck in the 15+ autox's I've been too, except for the car fire once), BUT ANOTHER ONE? You then have to start asking questions I believe about course design as it relates to saftey.

and you also have to think about the drivers thinking they're invincible with AWD

Ro-

Totally true- but do you think that any one of us, even if we were totally crazy could wreck at one of our events? I think it would be very hard-pressed to happen because Josh and the other SSS's make sure that distance minimums are kept if not exceeded BY FAR. Two wrecks, two events. Could it be coincedence? Maybe so.

Spectre-

Any other wrecks or was it just subies??

JJ

This last course was designed by a CP mustang guy. Nuff said

The last one, the slolom was a little close to a light pole. It was more than the required safe distance away, but there was 2 people that almost hit it and 1 that actually did and he was a great driver (I fully expect him to win STS at the national finale this year).

To answer your question, those were the only wrecks. Just Subies. The one I saw last year was some dumb ghetto redneck Mercury Capri went way off course and got in a head-on with a Porsche 968.

The primary reason for both of these excursions, and a wild ride for me as well, is a large bump that is places right before a right hand sweeper when you're usually between 40-50mph. It just drops you off and both I and the other two Subarus landed wrong. Let it be known that a CP mustang and Dodge Avenger both spun on this spot.

ARG!

But DLC, driving it and watching the on-board video of you driving it, show it to be a straight section of the course. You have to be driving like an ass to be sideways there. My front wheels got air over that bump every lap I think. That was fun

Like I said before, the bump was on a straight section, not a turn (unless you really screw up the line going into it which many people did). And yes, the pole incident was Noah. And like Stimpy said, he went from 225 PZeros to worse tires. Actually they were worse than stock. I think they were 205/65-15 all season goodyears on stock Legacy L wheels. And that time the bump was entering a slolom.

I must have been a bit messy on that line, that i'm willing to admit, but this isn't a rallycross...

I noted a LOT of cars losing traction over that bump. It's just a shame that it's in that exact spot, because it's a very nice sport for a good tightening right sweeper.

sorry to have come off as an ass, I was in a hurry , but too often I have seen too many posts of people wrecking (not during an autoX though) and it turns out it's because they feel that way about AWD. Definitely some issues to be had with course design.

David, was it Noah? That really sucks!!

Even though I wasn't there this weekend, I can definitely vouch for the location of the problem area. The parking lot peaks out considerably and if you have enough speed, you will get some air. This unsettles the car greatly and they act funny coming off the backside of the hill.

The first subaru accident into the light pole was partially because of the course, and partically because of the crappy tires. The driver (whom I have forgotten his nick) has been racing on 225 pZero's for all season and because he was trying to save rubber, he chose to race on some stock 205 garbage. He pushed it a little too hard and lost it.

putting a bad bump like that in a corner is stupid. That's a violation of several rules and procedure mandating the course design as specified by the SCCA.

You should bring that up with the course safty stuward
